In the Spring of 2020, Renaissance Scholars participated in National Foster Care Awareness month, a period set aside in May to recognize the many individuals, families, agencies and communities that support children in foster care nationally. During this campaign, a global pandemic forced society to a standstill. Colleges were shutdown, we learned of a new term called “social distancing”, and the Floyd Riots brought civil rights back to the forefront.

Renaissance Scholar students create community through podcasts, newsletters, and blogs as a way to connect with each other during a time of great uncertainty. Fosterpedia is here to raise awareness about foster care through experiences from the voices of former foster youth themselves!

This week we are discussing, “What would you tell other foster youth in regards to being in care and ageing out?", we hope to bring some insight into what it's like to experience the foster care system and what ageing out looks like. Today we will bring back Angela Young and Denise Hernandez to share with us what kind of advice they would give to foster youth currently in care or about to emancipate. 

Join us as we discuss this week about the impacts that COVID-19 has made on the former foster youth population. We will talk about current talks on policy changes, how foster youth view government assistance or intervention, and we'll go over what our expectations are for a virtual fall semester.
