In this episode, interdisciplinary artist, performer and collaborator Kimberly Ho 何文蔚 (@kberlyho) and artist and educator Annie Canto (@anniecanto) discuss the multidimensional role food plays in their life and work. 

Host Rebecca Wang 王晨釔 talks to them about Kimberly’s 2021 film To Make Ends Meat 心頭肉 and Annie’s teaching career. They also share their experiences of growing up in immigrant and mixed race families, and discuss topics such as intergenerational dialogue, race politics, and (body and cultural) language.

In this episode, host Minah Lee talks to Ying Wang and Jie Wang, two sister-artists behind the film SISTERS (2005). Through their life journey steeped in immigration struggles, they became special companions in each other’s lives. The filmmakers share lived stories of the younger sister’s eating disorders and the older sister’s heart-felt witnessing. Their collaborative story-telling weaves complex issues of mental health, identity, cultural and physical symptoms, and a healing journey.

The conversation revolves around how trauma, refusal, and healing inform their research and work, a significant part of which takes place in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
