I Love Space And Planets And All That S#*t!
I just started listening to this podcast and Dr. Neil deGrasseTyson lives up to his reputation as top-notch scientific intellect who can talk about some of the most complicated aspects of science and astronomy in a way that the interested layperson can understand and he does it without dumbing it down to the lowest common denominator. His natural sense of humor works well not just with the listener, but with his guests on the show. In most of the episodes I've listened to so far, his guests are scientists, actors and comedians and the things they all have in common are their love about science and the interaction of between science and society at large, a highly developed sense of humor and a true passion to communicate to the world just how fricking cool all this stuff is.
Of course, Dr. Tyson is blessed with powerful voice that conveys the his sense of wonder and awe to the audience and he knows how to tell a joke. One suggestion for the show, please do a roundtable episode with the some of the biggest "stars" in science communication in the multimedia, blog and podcasting worlds: Dr. Phil Plait, Bill Nye, Dr. Pamela Gay and a couple of more that I just can't remember right now. I would love to here these people just talk about their passion for science, their outlook for the future and their worries about where the world is now in terms of science education and literacy.
If my life had gone a little differently, I would a have a job communicating my love of science to the public, I know that wouldn't be able to compete directly with Dr. Tyson, but it would have been very nice to consider him a true colleague in that arena.
