    Scaling Up with Corwin Smith

    Scaling Up with Corwin Smith

    Scaling Up

    Take away:
Putting the right people systems and processes in place is critical for reducing the burden on the business owner, improving profitability, and allowing the business to run more smoothly and successfully. Implementing these structured people management practices is key to achieving sustainable growth.

    Money Learnings:
Corwin's early childhood was marked by financial abundance - his father was very successful in agricultural sales and lived a lavish lifestyle with private planes, a car collection, and more. However, when his father's company was sold and he lost his job, the family then went through periods of extreme "famine or feast" as his father's subsequent business ventures failed. Corwin's mother worked full-time in low-paying jobs, but her income was not enough to provide financial stability for the family. This upbringing of oscillating between wealth and scarcity instilled in Corwin the perspective that money is hard to come by and that financial situations can drastically change, despite his father's entrepreneurial efforts. It taught him that money has an inherent insecurity and unpredictability to it.

    Bio:
Corwin J. Smith is a Valuation Growth Coach, certified in Scaling Up/The Rockefeller Habits by Verne Harnish since 2016. He possesses expertise in diverse methodologies including Spiral Dynamics, 5 Behaviors of a Cohesive Team, and Metronomics. Currently, Corwin specializes in aiding companies across sectors like medicine, professional services, cannabis, and manufacturing, with a focused effort in recent years on blue-collar industries and trades. His clients typically achieve substantial results, including a 40% reduction in management time, doubling of net profit, and a 500-800% increase in business valuation. Corwin's entrepreneurial journey began at the WP Carey Business School, where he founded a Fire & Water Damage restoration company, rapidly growing it to 45 employees in less than four years. Prior to this venture, he made significant strides in medical sales for a local diagnostic imaging firm, setting records in new patient and doctor acquisition. His tenure at Rocky Mountain Restoration was marked by high praise and media coverage in the Arizona Republic and Success Magazine, reflecting the impactful culture and work of the organization. On a personal front, Corwin is deeply invested in his family life, alongside his wife, dedicating themselves to raising their four sons to be productive and fulfilled members of society. An avid outdoorsman, Smith relishes mountain biking, hiking, and hunting in the wilderness of Arizona. He is also a devoted supporter of his children's sporting activities. Further extending his commitment to the community, Corwin offers his expertise through unpaid mentorship to upcoming business owners in the local Entrepreneur's Organization chapter.

The Science of Awakening Your Non-Self with Clement Decrop

The Science of Awakening Your Non-Self with Clement Decrop

The Science of Awakening Your Non-Self

    Take away:
To embark on a journey of personal growth by continually questioning, learning, and striving to see beyond the surface-level illusions that constrain so many people's perceptions of what is possible.

    Money Learnings:
Clement Decrop grew up where money came in the form of a reward  system for doing well in school. His parents would give him 1 dollar to 5 dollars based on his grades on his report card - 5 dollars for an A, 4 dollars for a B, etc. Even though it wasn't a lot of money, it was motivating for him as a kid, as he could save up and buy things like $40 video games back then. This reward system taught him to value money from a young age and incentivized him to perform well academically.

    Bio:
Clement Decrop is a master inventor with 50+ patents filed, public speaker, and author of "The Idea Space: Awakening Your Non-Self"

    Highlights from this episode:
Exploring the concept of an "idea space" - a mental model for understanding the mind based on physics and general relativity.
The importance of mindfulness practices like meditation and focusing on the breath to cultivate presence and gratitude.
Strategies for letting go of attachments and reducing the intensity of negative emotions.
The value of reading widely and exposing yourself to different perspectives to challenge your perception of reality.
Techniques like negative visualization and "last time" meditation from Stoic philosophy to build resilience.
Raising children with the right balance of struggle and support to instill grit and wisdom.
Reframing societal norms and systems as "veils of illusion" can blind us from deeper truths about existence.

How to Succeed When Everyone Expects You to Fail with Jonathan Beskin

How to Succeed When Everyone Expects You to Fail

    Take away:
Challenges early on, while difficult, can be the fire that forges your inner strength. If you believe in yourself and your abilities, you can exceed other's low expectations. Never let your humble beginnings limit your ambition. Turn adversity into advantage.

    Money Learnings:
Jonathan's childhood was challenging financially and he felt deprived compared to his wealthy peers. He didn't receive any substantive money education as a child and had to figure it out himself later through entrepreneurial trial and error. This gave him motivation to build his own success.

    Bio:
Serial entrepreneur Jonathan Beskin built his first company, a women’s lifestyle subscription box, from a pre-revenue idea to over $60 million in revenue in under five years. An investor in multiple private companies and startups, he has twice been featured in the prestigious Inc. 5000 list. Beskin is a digital advertising and e-commerce expert; he often speaks at conferences and academic institutions. He holds an MBA in finance from Florida Atlantic University.

    Highlights from this episode:
It's vital to keep pivoting in business - be flexible, and keep learning and adapting as things change. Nothing lasts forever.
When starting a business, do as much yourself initially to really understand it before bringing in others. This allows you to better evaluate outside help.
Having a healthy obsession, and always keeping your brain occupied on positive, beneficial activities can lead to an abundant life. Idle time can lead to negativity.
Don't make decisions based on what others think - trust your own judgment. Listen to yourself.
Be willing to put yourself out there and be vulnerable - you never know what opportunities it can create when you open up.
The choice is yours daily - take action or just consume. Turn off the TV and get to work on your dreams.
