Been listening for a while and finally feel compelled to thank Casey for sharing her story. I had a similarly horrible school experience. My spouse and I are both high-achiever types too, and dealing with our “good” public school made me feel like they saw me as crazy and a bad parent. My child would comply out of fear at school but instantly melt down at home every night, saying how awful it was, and refuse school every morning. The school would not work with me to introduce him gradually to school every day and ultimately literally traumatized him to the point we could not get him to school at all. Today, my PDA elementary school student is a hard-working and very social college computer science major who’s a kind-hearted person. I read probably a hundred parenting books, yet if I had a dollar for every time someone gave me simplistic advice that did not work at all, we could fund our kid’s masters degree or down payment on a house someday. It was definitely lonely parenting on extra hard mode for a number of years, but it gets better and is worth all the love, time, and patience we sink into PDA kids. Thank you for sharing your story and all you’re doing for families like ours. You are a gift.

OMG, this is so odd! Listening to episode 71 and I, too, had the instinct to use the list of people who love you. I do this often when my kiddo is distressed and its soothing to him. I’m a clinical social worker and parents of ND maybe PDA kids and am finding this podcast so helpful and validating. I incorporate it into my work as well!

I listen to Casey’s podcast on repeat. She’s helped change the trajectory of our family for the better. She will forever be a resource I remind to any family wanting to help not only their child but family as a whole.
Finally! Someone who offers realistic help!

Casey, your perspectives and methods are so eye-opening and inspirational. And your personal anecdotes are like pages from my own experience. I feel so seen and am hoping to work with you directly in your Paradigm Shift program. I’m adopting “it’s just data”, “this belongs”, and the concept that when we have a tough decision to make, we can either accommodate our child’s nervous system needs or activate their fight/flight response, and there really isn’t an elusive third option where we can impose our will in a sneaky way they won’t catch on to. There aren’t any magic pills or secret passwords… . You have so much empathy for what we as parents are going through but you also have a beautiful way of guiding us to look through a scientist’s or researcher’s lens, which deflects shame and blame away from both parent and child. THANK YOU!!
