The Wise Jezebels
Wise Jezebels is a podcast hosted by Tia Levings and Laura Anderson. Tia and Laura grew up in fundamentalist, high control religion, got out and now have things to say! Each episode these two best friends will be talking about all the things they wish they would have known growing up, discuss pop culture, religious scandal, books, healing, and relationships. Each episode they will be talking with other experts, mental health practitioners, coaches, advocates, therapists and folks who have survived fundamentalist systems, to learn from their experiences and offer resources and support for healing.

I’m so thankful that I found this show! I am right in your age range and completely get all of the religious and pop culture references! I feel like every episode is spending time with friends ❤️ Thank you for sharing your stories and wisdom. You’ve helped me find words for my own journey which has been so amazing, I honestly feel less crazy and more normal! It’s always good to know that we’re not alone.
I feel seen ❤️

Tia and Laura have created a fun and meaningful show for folks who find themselves on the other side of harmful fundamentalist Christianity. Laura’s comforting professional psychology background and Tia’s deep wisdom and life experience balance each other perfectly. I find myself looking forward to the show each week. Thanks, Tia and Laura, and please keep the episodes coming!
The podcast we need

So, after following the hosts on social media, I found the podcast. Honestly, I a 45 yr old cisgender dad of 3 kids with a partner of 14 year marriage, never thought I could get so much wonderful encouragement of this podcast. The struggles that the hosts talk openly about are all the things that my partner is going through after growing up in purity culture and now perimenopause. I love the authenticity the hosts speak with of the trials and tribulations of growing up in rigid systems. As a partner, I try to understand and support my partner in all the things. So grateful for this podcast.
The language I didn’t have to name my abuse

I grew up Reformed Calvinist, homeschool - skirts - courtship, all of it and after an abusive relationship in college, begin the incredibly slow process of unlearning a lot of that. Only in the last year or two am I start to have language and conscious awareness of the layers of harm involved in how I was raised. Hearing your experiences has helped so much as I realized more and more things in my childhood that weren’t actually normal and the language you use to name these systems of harm that it is still so hard for me to see for what they really are. Your podcast makes me feel incredibly seen and safe as I deconstruct. Thank you!
