Who’s a wounded healer? It’s any one of us who works in a caring profession and is bravely doing their own work, while helping others. My goal is to share the parallel journey we as healers walk along with our clients and how we attend to our own humanity while caring for others.

My podcast is about conversations and community building, what we can learn from each other, and how we can help heal each other. We’re cultivating a space where we celebrate vulnerability, authenticity and “showing up.”

It’s a place to meet people I think will inspire you, help you heal and grow – and who you can relate to at the same time.

I’m inspired by C.G. Jung’s “wounded healer” concept, where the healer’s own hurt that gives the measure of his own power to heal.

Another one of my heroes, Brene Brown, puts it best: “Mindfully practicing authenticity during our most soul-searching struggles is how we invite grace, joy and gratitude into our lives.”

Together, I hope this marriage of vulnerability and professionalism will inspire and entertain you...enjoy!

The Burnt Out Practice Owner: Is it Really Possible to Balance Parenting and Practice Ownership? with Rachael Sytsma-Ramos

The Burnt Out Practice Owner: Is it Really Possible to Balance Parenting and Practice Ownership? with Rachael Sytsma-Ramos

I am the mother of many things: plant babies, doggos, and multiple podcasts. I’ve also birthed several businesses and quite a few artistic endeavors. But I’m not mama to any little humans. So, when Rachael Sytsma-Ramos, Psy.D, suggested an episode focusing on the dynamics of practice ownership and parenting, I was instantly intrigued.
Rachael is mama to two children under five (!!), the founder of Relational Psychology Group, where she also manages a full caseload of 22-24 clients per week beyond typical ownership duties like marketing, bill paying, and supervising.
    GUEST BIO
Rachael Sytsma-Ramos (she/her) is a Clinical Psychologist in the Chicagoland area and mom of 2. Her primary clinical specialties are working with queer and transgender/gender-diverse clients, polyamorous/ethical non-monogamy relationships, and neurodivergent clients. Sprinkle in women's issues, intimate partner violence, and sexual abuse survivors and that's her typical clientele. She practices from a feminist-relational lens and is hell-bent on dismantling systems of oppression with her clients.

Al Cho - Celebrating Queer Life and Family Through the Lens of Intersectional Identities

Al Cho - Celebrating Queer Life and Family Through the Lens of Intersectional Identities

It’s easy to forget that siblings have stories uniquely their own. They may share similar childhood memories as you, but their narratives will differ wildly. Blended families, like Anne’s, hold an added layer of complexity.
How lucky for us that she and her step-sibling Al Cho, MSW, agreed to record this fascinating chat for family posterity. Their conversation highlights the very best of familial support. It also reminds us that even the most connected kin can’t completely insulate us from life’s challenges or the healing work that’s meant for us.
GUEST BIO Al Cho (he/they) is an MSW and a co-investigator on LGBTQIA2+ aging and advocacy in Columbus, Ohio. He develops intergenerational LGBTQIA2+ programming focused on arts & resilience and contributes to advocacy efforts on trans aging in long-term care facilities and creating equitable aging environments for African American older adults.

Aaron Karmin, LCPC, is a 360º type of practitioner who’s worked in research departments, as an intake specialist, a telephone counselor, an experiential counselor (think: whitewater rafting for teens), a grad student supervisor, and a solo therapist. Aaron’s thoughtful insights are a welcome counterpoint to the frenetic changes taking place in our profession.
    GUEST BIO
Aaron Karmin LCPC, (he/him) is the owner of Karmin Counseling, a Gottman Seven Principles Educator, and holds an advanced certification in stress management. The Burnt Out Practice Owner: How Can a Nonprofit Collective Model Work for a Private Healing Practice? With Vilmarie Fraguada Narloch

The Burnt Out Practice Owner: How Can a Nonprofit Collective Model Work for a Private Healing Practice? With Vilmarie Fraguada Narloch

Virtual meet-cutes are my jam. Vilmarie Fraguada Narloch, PsyD, and I bonded on IG over our shared love for collaborative music-making and the radical regeneration of the group practice blueprint. She’s the amazing co-founder of Sana Healing Collective in Chicago, a non-profit committed to individualized, client-led approaches to psychedelic-assisted therapy for everyone, especially those most affected by the war on drugs.
If you’re curious about the collective decision-making process, earnings potential, and 501(c)(3) of it all (and, even if you’re not), this convo will shift your perspective on what’s possible beyond the bounds of our current group practice model.
GUEST BIO Vilmarie Fraguada Narloch, PsyD. (she/her/ella) is a licensed psychologist focusing on integrated treatment of co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. She is an activist working to end the War on Drugs and advocates for science and reality-based drug education and harm reduction approaches for all. She approaches her work from a harm-reductionist and humanistic lens, focusing on the individual needs of the person, group, or community. She received a certificate in psychedelic therapies and research from the California Institute of Integral Studies in 2018.

Janina Fisher - Spilling Tea Over TikTok Diagnoses, Evidence-Based Therapies, and the Ever-Evolving Nature of Trauma Therapy

It’s not every day that I get to chat with a pioneer in the trauma field, so gimme a moment to geek out over Janina Fisher, Ph.D. the esteemed psychotherapist, consultant, trainer, and author. She’s an international expert on the treatment of trauma, best known for her work on integrating mindfulness-based and somatic interventions into trauma treatment and an absolute legend.
Janina dispenses some wisdom during our conversation regarding the ever-evolving study of trauma,TikTok diagnoses, and therapists doing their own work (!). She also spills tea all over capitalism’s outsized devotion to evidence-based therapies. I’m here for all of it!
GUEST BIO Janina Fisher, Ph.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist and international expert on the treatment of trauma. She's the author of Healing the Fragmented Selves of Trauma Survivors, overcoming Self Alienation, transforming the Living Legacy of Trauma, a workbook for survivors and therapists, and the Living Legacy instructional flip chart.
