Heino Stöver is a social scientist, PhD and Professor of Social Scientific Addiction Research at the Faculty of Health and Social Work of the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences in Germany.He is the president of the national umbrella organization working on harm reduction for drug users and since 2009 he has also been the director of the “Institute of Addiction Research”.
Prof. Heino Stöver’s main fields of research and project development expertise are health promotion for vulnerable and marginalized groups, drug services, and related health aspects such as the potential of e-cigarettes and drug dependence.
He has also worked as a consultant for the European Commission (EC), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), World Health Organization (WHO), European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA).

In today’s episode we will focus on how Germany’s policy on drugs and addictions have evolved over time, and whether the current approach towards addictions could be replicated across the European Union to create a more harmonized policy.
We talked about the best way forward, and how to ensure that European citizens in all the EU Member States are given equal opportunities to address their addictive behaviors in rational ways.
