    On this Freedom Friday, we wrapped up our weekly “Church” theme with freedom stories from our listeners as we asked them, “What has God done in your life through the church that has brought you healing?” We then had Shaunti Feldhahn join us to discuss the impact of church hurt on mental health. Shaunti is a best-selling author, podcaster, blogger, and popular speaker. She was formerly an analyst on Wall Street, and now she applies her analytical skills to investigating eye-opening, life-changing truths about relationships at home and in the workplace. She has authored several books, including “When Hurting People Come to Church: How People of Faith Can Help Solve the Mental Health Crisis.” We then had Dr. Wayne Grudem join us to talk about systematic theology. Dr. Grudem serves as a Distinguished Research Professor of Theology and Biblical Studies Emeritus at Phoenix Seminary in Arizona.     Believers Coming Back to God and Recognizing Toxic Church Leadership with Lyle Wells and Kat Armstrong

    Today, on Karl and Crew, we continued our weekly theme of “Church” with freedom stories from our believers, as they shared how they got back on track with God. We then had Colin Smith join us as we talked about the centrality of the Bible and the importance of teaching the Bible in the church. Colin Smith is Senior Pastor Emeritus of The Orchard Evangelical Free Church. He is also the founder and teacher of the long-time, daily radio program, Open the Bible, which airs weekday mornings on Moody Radio at 9 am CT. He has also written several books, including “Fly Through the Bible: A Brief Introduction.” We then had Dr. Wayne Grudem join us to talk about systematic theology. Dr. Grudem serves as a Distinguished Research Professor of Theology and Biblical Studies Emeritus at Phoenix Seminary in Arizona. He has also written several books, including “Systematic Theology.” Then Lyle Wells and Kat Armstrong joined us to share what toxic leadership looks like in the church. Lyle is a respected leader, pastor, executive coach, and speaker in Christian leadership circles. He is also President of Integrus Leadership and has mentored thousands of Kingdom-minded leaders, equipping them with practical, faith-driven resources to strengthen their leadership. Kat is a sought-after Bible teacher, preacher, Director of Marketing at Integres Leadership, and podcast host. Both Lyle and Kat wrote a book called “Easy to Follow: Trading Toxic Leadership for the Way of Jesus.” We then had Karl Vaters join us to discuss the spiritual impact of smaller churches. Karl has served in a small church ministry for over 40 years and has gained hands-on pastoral experience. He also hosts a biweekly podcast, The Church Lobby: Conversations on Faith and Ministry.     3 Ingredients for Healthy Spiritual Formation with Dr. John Mabus and Why is the Wording Different in the Bible Manuscripts with Dr. Mikel Del Rosario?

    On this Freedom Friday, we wrapped up our weekly theme, “Back to School,” with a few professors and staff members from Moody Bible Institute (MBI). First, we were joined by Dr. John Mabus to discuss healthy spiritual formation. Dr. Mabus is an Associate Professor of Applied Theology and Church Ministries at MBI. For the past 14 years, Dr. Mabus served as a Navy Chaplain, sharing the gospel and caring for people in the context of military life. He also has professional interests in spiritual formation and discipleship, reformation practices in pastoral care and discipleship, suicide prevention and intervention, and leadership advisement and coaching. Then, we were joined by Kelli Worrall to discuss the significance of communication in the Bible. Kelli is a Professor of Communications at MBI and the Field Chair for the Music and Media Arts Division. She is also the author of “20 Things We’d Tell Our Twentysomethings Selves.”Then we had Dr. Mikel Del Rosario join us to discuss the legitimacy of the New Testament Bible manuscripts, despite the differences in their wording. Dr. Del Rosario currently teaches apologetics, philosophy, ethics, and Bible as a Professor of Bible and Theology at MBI. Before coming to Moody, he taught Apologetics classes at Jessup University in California. He has a passion for helping Christians find clear answers to tough questions about Christianity and explaining their faith with courage and compassion. Then we had Dr. Mary Hendrickson join us to discuss how our personalities can affect the way we read the Bible. Dr. Hendrickson is an Assistant Professor of Human Services and Pre-Counseling at MBI. She serves in the Counseling Psychology and Educational Ministries department. We then discussed the importance of “girding up the loins” of our minds, meaning having a sober mind and being alert for whatever comes. This is affirmed in Scripture in Exodus 12:11 and 1 Peter 1:13.     5 Types of Churches with Dr. Tim Sisk and Applying the Old Testament to Today with Dr. Eric Redmond

    Today, on Karl and Crew, we continued our weekly theme of “Back to School” with some of the professors and staff from the Moody Bible Institute (MBI). Dr. Tim Sisk joined us to discuss the importance of identifying the five different types of churches based on their origins. Dr. Sisk is Provost and Senior Vice President at MBI. He has spent 20 years at Moody, serving in various leadership roles, including chair of the Intercultural Studies Department and dean of the undergraduate school. Then we had Brent Manion pop in to share about the 25th anniversary of the Moody Radio Chattanooga Shoe Drive. Brent has been in full-time Christian radio ministry since 1996 and with Moody Radio in Chattanooga, Tennessee, since 2014. He serves as the Community Impact Director, overseeing ministry-impactful events such as Shoes for Orphan Souls, where they provide hope for children worldwide through shoe donations. We then had Dr. Eric Redmond join us to talk about the importance of reading and building on the Old Testament. Dr. Redmond is a Professor of Bible at MBI and the Executive Director of the Moody Theological Seminary Center for Compelling Biblical Preaching. He also serves as an Associate Pastor of Preaching and Teaching at Calvary Memorial Church in Oak Park, Illinois. He has written several books, including “Say it!: Celebrating Expository Preaching in the African American Tradition.” Then we had Kelli Worrall join us to talk about the significance of communication in the Bible. Kelli is a Professor of Communications at MBI and the Field Chair for the Music and Media Arts Division.     Deconstructing Christian Worldview with Peter Worrall and Sharing the Gospel Interculturally with Dr. Samuel Naaman

    Today, on Karl and Crew, we continued our weekly theme of “Back to School” with some of the professors and staff from the Moody Bible Institute (MBI). First, we had Peter Worrall to discuss how the deconstruction of his faith brought him back to God and about the Christian Worldview. Peter is an Associate Professor of Educational Ministries at MBI. He has also authored the book, “20 Things We’d Tell Our Twentysomething Selves.” Then we had Dr. Samuel Naaman discuss how God led him into missionary work and how to share the gospel with people from other cultures. Dr. Naaman is the professor of Intercultural Studies at MBI. He is also the Vice President of Call of Hope, which reaches Muslims for Christ. He is also the President and co-founder of the South Asian Friendship Center, which aims to reach Muslims and Hindus. We also discussed the importance of reading the Word to accurately and effectively share the gospel. We turned to 2 Timothy 2:14-18, where it shows the importance of knowing the word and not adding to or taking away from it. Then we had Brian Kammerzelt join us to discuss the changing landscape of media with AI and the need for theologically informed communicators. Brian is a Professor and the Program Head of Communications at MBI. He specializes in the theology of communications and culture.
