E265 - BC WILD FIRE - ENGINE BOSS
This week we chat about the BC Wild Fire Engine Boss course. Scott, Ash and other members of their department helped BCWFS prep and set up for an engine boss course. They chat about planning, scouting locations and hosting an event like that. Todd was a participant and he breaks down how the course went down and the things learned.

E264 - How we build a FTX / Scenario - Arson Structure Fires
This week the whole crew is back together and we talk about building a scenario or an FTX. How to plan out whats required, what is expected and how to react when things don’t go as planned. Ash breaks down a recent Arson Scenario where the crew was dispatched to their training grounds with signs of smoke showing with no fire engines on scene from a nearby resident. The call progressed into multiple Pt’s missing, multiple burn buildings on fire that had command looking to take a step back and hand off areas of the scenario to his officers for the best outcome.

This week we made the tough choice to announce a brief break in podcast episodes. All 3 of us are currently being pulled in many directions outside of the podcast which has made creating content increasingly difficult. We felt it was in ours and our listeners best interest to pause production for what could be a few weeks or months and come back with a new focus and a re branding of what we are delivering on a weekly basis. We want to thank each and every one who has been with us on our journey and can’t wait to get back soon chatting with you all.

This week welcome Scott back to the studio and get an update on the Wild Land Task Force Leader course he recently took. Todd tells us about a new tradition his department is starting where they dedicate new apparatus to past fire fighters. One in particular was dedicated to Todds father, who spent 53 years of service in Osoyoos.

E259: Cold Weather, Broken Pipes and Structure Fires
This Todd and Ash get together while Scott is away training and chat about some of the recent calls they ran while dealing with a cold snap of -25 degree days. Both departments were toned out for Structure Fires as well as Fire Suppression pipes freezing and bursting causing large amounts of water to flow out into residents homes and businesses.

What a great group of people and podcast!
If you’re looking for a friendly, in-depth, meandering tour of a couple of fabulous volunteer fire departments in BC, look no further! The hosts are amazing, funny, knowledgeable…honestly this has rapidly become my favorite podcast; I always look forward to new episodes and really appreciate the work they put into making this podcast!
One thing I’d love to see more (though I understand it’s hard) is diversity in fire –the occasional woman, for instance, would dramatically diversify the crew!
The BEST Podcast for Volunteer fire fighters
I listen to many Fire related podcasts. Most are packed full of great info but they all seem to be geared towards paid departments. While we all do the same job being a volunteer is a different beast. This podcast is spot on for the volunteer service. Even if they are in Canada so much if it hits the nail on the head for even us in the states. Keep up the great work guys and stay DTFF!!!
Huge help when you dont realize it
After going to my first fire ground I realized that the words they had said stayed with me. When getting geared up and ridding to the scene I heard them talking about breathing and keeping my cool. Thanks to thier talks about keeping water in my gear and having a bottle before getting to scene I found that I was hydrated and ready for any attack that needed my help. Thank you for your help Brothers from the north
