Episode 45: The Happy Black Therapist with Chantelle Oguadimma

Episode 45: The Happy Black Therapist with Chantelle Oguadimma

Today’s episode is all about building your dreams out of necessity. Our guest, Chantelle Oguadimma, AKA The Happy Black Therapist, joins us to share how she took her education and experience in a moment of desperation as a new mom to create a behavioral health residential facility for adults. Chantelle shares with us her upbringing and nurturing that supported her confidence in her career and how she birthed her child as a single mother and used her maternity leave to become an entrepreneur. I just love this conversation because Chantelle shares the real down to earth struggles, how necessity forced her to dream big and take risky action. Today she shares how she created her behavioral health clinic, the philosophy and approaches that have proven to work to treat trauma and addiction, and how she is taking a stand in the community to provide education and connection around mental health, which is commonly believed to not exist in the communities she serves and in her own culture.

    What we’re talking about...

    Becoming an entrepreneur.
The reality of barriers in your journey and giving yourself no other option than to figure it out.
Cultural competency and cultural discrepancies in what healing means for the black, especially nigerian, community and native american community.
The power of mind body connection
    Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
    Trauma Treatment
The power of community in healing

Episode 42: Healing Through Serious Mental Illness Featuring Bipolar Bachelor’s Jarred Madison Frey

***Trigger warning for discussion of suicide attempts, psychosis, and mania.***

Today’s episode is all about healing through severe mental illness. Most people who witness severe mental illness see the bigness of moments and may experience fear and worry for their loved ones. Hear from our guest, Jarred Madison Frey as he shares his personal journey living with Severe Mental Illness while experiencing multiple co-occurring diagnosis.

Jarred shares the traumatic experience that triggered his mental health struggles and shares how the majority of mental health diagnosis are rooted in some form of trauma. He unravels his reality of mania, psychosis, depression, hospitalizations, therapeutic treatments including therapy and psychiatry and how he found his way to naturopathic medicine as an integral foundation. Jared beautifully showcases how you don’t have to pick just one intervention in healing, you can utilize an eclectic approach to meet your individual needs. He discusses how his faith and spirituality has been at the heart of his journey while therapy, support systems, medication management, and naturopathic remedies have worked hand in hand to support him in healing.

Jared's take away message that all should hear from this podcast is that “if you are out there today, there is always hope...and his name is Jesus. It is time that you know that you are worth more than what you see, it is time that you know that you are worth more than what you were, it is time that you know you are worth more than what you can be. You can be so much more”
