Concussions can be caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or body, or when an athlete simply trips or falls to the ground during a game. According to Brian Harvey, DO from the Sports Medicine Center at Children's Mercy, the first step for any athlete with a suspected concussion should be immediate removal from play for the remainder of the day, and until cleared by a medical professional.
