Episode 46: The Fundamentals of Making Lifestyle Changes with Rachel Trotta

The Fit Parent Podcast with Jeff Dalzell

On today’s episode of The Fit Parent Podcast I am joined by certified personal trainer, nutrition coach & mom Rachel Trotta to talk about building short term weight loss goals into long term lifestyle changes.

We go into depth on:

  • The importance of fitting your routine into what is actually happening in your life

  • How to define your “end goal” in order to shift from weight loss to weight maintenance

  • How to zoom out on your fitness plan instead of hyper focusing on the specifics

  • How to get started easier and sooner on your weight loss journey rather than waiting for the perfect time

  • How to reevaluate your relationship with food in order to break bad habits

When defining our fitness goals, we tend to zoom in really closely on results - “I want to lose 40lbs” or “I want to be lean & toned” - but we forget to ask ourselves how we want our lifestyle to look like in the end. Would you be willing to lose 20 lbs instead of 40lbs if the resulting lifestyle meant that you’d be able to keep it off without excessive pressure and stress? Finding the right fitness routine is all about building long term habits and changes that bring us closer to the lifestyle we ultimately want to be living.
