Why am I making a podcast? The best answer I can come up with is that I feel like I’ve been failing my entire life, so I can speak from plenty of experience. Sure, I was on The X Files and Californication, I wrote some books and made some music. But I also got a literal F in The New York Times. I had a high-profile divorce and a magical mystery tour through rehab. So now I want to get into the way that failure looms over all of us and really shapes who we are. What’s good about that, what’s bad about that, what’s holding us back in shame? Lots to unpack here. So join me and some cool guests from sports, tv, politics, business and beyond starting May 7, wherever you get your podcasts – and we’ll get into it.

Brad Gilbert and the Problem with Perfection

Brad Gilbert and the Problem with Perfection

Like all of us, athletes fail often. Renowned tennis coach Brad Gilbert knows that well, and has spent decades analyzing weaknesses as a way to develop strengths. As a player, he rose to the rank of #4 in the world, then began coaching stars like Andy Roddick, Andy Murray, and, most recently, Coco Gauff. He even trained Zendaya for the movie Challengers. I loved hearing how the man Andre Agassi called “the greatest coach of all time” gets even more out of the best players in the game.

    PREMIUM: Reflections on Brad Gilbert

    PREMIUM: Reflections on Brad Gilbert

My day-after, early-morning, pre-coffee thoughts about talking to Brad Gilbert led me to lots of places, from how invested my parents were in the sports I played to where I’ve heard some of Brad’s ideology before. I also land a good metaphor, if that’s a thing.

Gabor Maté and the Reason We’re All Addicted

Gabor Maté and the Reason We’re All Addicted

This is my most personal episode so far, but it's really about the wisdom of Dr. Gabor Maté. The author, physician, and public speaker reminds us all how we sometimes become too comfortable with self-criticism and regret. We talk about parenting, collaboration, and addiction, and I leave the interview feeling a level of gratitude that I don’t know what to do with. Here’s that conversation.

    PREMIUM: Reflections on Gabor Maté

    PREMIUM: Reflections on Gabor Maté

After my interview with Gabor Maté took some surprising turns, I spent the next few days in a pretty heady place. I kept thinking about generational pain, responsibility versus culpability, and why some of my creative failures have felt so personal. Big stuff.

Festini is a big fan of the music

And a little of Californication and x-files. But that’s not why I subbed. I did a bit of background check on DC and he is really smart and clearly suffers from imposter syndrome based on the podcast. Without listening to one widows yet…cause most want my membership…I will hope for the best. Maybe come back to tell the tale. But I’m telling you the music is legit. I hope he tours.

Welcome Finch ,

Thank you, David.

I don’t know how to put how I feel into words, but David seems to know how to echo a lot of similar emotions I deal with everyday. I’ve really appreciated David soaking up wisdom from each guest he’s had on the show, creating a safe space for him and his guests to open up about personal failures, regrets, and troubling thoughts they deal with, and how they’ve been able to cope with them, learn from them, and maybe even overcome them.

Hearing you talk about your inner-self has really helped me sort out a lot of my more confusing thoughts. Thanks so much, David. Keep up the good work!

Wonderful Gem

The Ben Still story from Zoolander took me out 🤣🤣🤣 that aside, this really helped alleviate a lot of mental anguish I experience for not being perfect and constantly striving for it. Can’t wait to listen to more!
