This is not a podcast to give advice.

It is here to share stories. To provide insight. To shine a light on the humanity being done in a world that has become desensitised to darkness. Internal and worldly darkness.

It tries not ONLY to show the individuals that are are expert go-getters, but ALSO those who will never get a place in the spotlight, nor ever want that recognition. Neither better or worse.

It is here to be “objectively understood, and if you choose, subjectively adopted, by either changing your reality or changing how you see it”

    Szn 2: Hello and welcome!

    Szn 2: Hello and welcome!

Hello ladies and gents and welcome back to the Outcome Podcast. If you're joining me for the first time, my name is Matt Schiff, your gracious host, and I am so privileged to be having you here with me today. We're giving a couple of new episodes a go through slightly different formats. If you are a return guest, you might have noticed these conversations tend to take place between 60 to 80 minutes, some long format, meaty stories, and guests that have joined me on the show up to date.

[00:00:28] And this new version is going to include some new bite-sized pieces, episodes that are slightly shorter, less than 25 minutes, all for your ease of listenership. I thank you for joining and the episodes that were recorded last happened so around 2021.

[00:00:45] So the context in which many of the conversations took place were totally different. The guests were in a very different mindset or different space to where they are now. But the conversations with them were so good and as a matter of interest and a matter of fact,

[00:00:59] I feel obligated and excited to share their conversations with you.

[00:01:05] So you'll find bits and pieces of bite-size information, but also some longer format conversations coming to you fast and furious. If there happens to be a conversation that resonates with you and you would like to share it with your community, please do so. This podcast, wherever you might be listening to right now, can be found absolutely anywhere.

[00:01:25] And with your help, it will get a bit further out into the universe. So I thank you. I welcome you if you're new to the platform. And it is an absolute privilege to be walking this journey with you once more. Welcome back to the Outcome Podcast.

#16: Scott Parker - Behind the two-star Iron Chef

#16: Scott Parker - Behind the two-star Iron Chef

Not all things in life are black and white. It's the slogan of this show and it certainly was the case during my conversation with Episode 16's guest - Scott Parker (@scottparker1987).

The very first released recording for 2021 is introduced to you by a man, who at first glance, is arguably best known for his delicate palette, chef whites, and magazine cover appearances. Let me be the first to tell you that his story in relation to what you might see or hear, is truly not what you may think. Amplifying beautifully exactly what this podcast aims to achieve.

Scott Parker - the man of the hour - has humbly shared his story with me during this recording and I could not be more excited to share it with you. Admittedly, I was quite nervous to get Scotty behind the mic as the man displays SUCH an impressive resumé, my fear was that having one conversation would not do him and his "life's story" up to now, justice. Moments before we sat down to record, however, we got talking about vulnerabilities. Nothing too specific around the subject, more about what was going on in our current lives at that point in time, and without giving away too much, you might want to take a chair for this conversation.

For those who are unsure of the name or the story, Scott Parker remains one of the most humble, hardworking, philanthropic human beings you'll ever come across. From starting the year incredibly ill to being hospitalized after suffering from a pulmonary embolism, to feeding more than 3,000 people per day during COVID restrictions, I tried to cover it all with Scott.

Personality & characteristics aside to speak of some of his credentials - Scott was trained at the prestigious Westminster Kingsway College in London for 3 years, and during his time there picked up some very impressive work & culinary experience under Andrew Turner & Shane Osbourne independently. Shane at the time was the Head Chef of a 2-star Michelin restaurant called Pied a Terre, the same restaurant where Scott remained for 2 years after completing his diploma, before moving to the next 2-star Michelin called Claude Bosi's Hibiscus where he was then promoted to Sous Chef.

From the age of 16 where Scott got his first taste of what it's like to be behind the pass in a kitchen, to 21 where he became the Head Chef a 2-star Michelin restaurant, Midsummer House, to where we sit today, Scott has cooked in restaurants with a combined EIGHT Michelin stars among them! No small feat I’m sure you understand.

His storytelling throughout our conversation is captivating. His experiences at home, in school, in the kitchen, and through his occupation at the moment is immensely vulnerable and awe-inspiring. This is undoubtedly one of my top 5 favourite conversations to date, and one which I can’t wait for you to listen to.

    Enjoy!

    Introduction to Bite-Size Episodes #1

    Introduction to Bite-Size Episodes #1

"Hello, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome back to the Outcome Podcast!"

I am your host, Matt Schiff.

If you are joining me for the first time, then I welcome you to this platform. If you have been here before, welcome back. Man, did I miss you!?

The mics have been dusted off, the cogs have been greased, and some bloody great conversations have been patched up and ready to be delivered to you through the airwaves.

This year you will find the addition of shorter, bite-sized episodes scattered in between the usual long-form conversations. Why? Well, for a few reasons:

    - To give those of you who don't enjoy +1 hour-long conversations the chance to not miss out on any great content.

    - These episodes will not be longer than 20mins. Perfect for your daily dose of personal development or to scratch that curiosity itch.

    - They will highlight the best stories, anecdotes, takeaways, or ideas from the previous week's episode, just in case you missed that chat.

I've been saying this for a while now, but FOR REAL this time, I cannot wait to share what has been recorded with all of you. I've thoroughly enjoyed every conversation up to date and have no doubt that if you've been following my incredible guests up until now, you will enjoy them too!

Please enjoy this very first Bite-Size Episode!

#15: Jenna Selley - Intuition, Health, and Dietetics

#15: Jenna Selley - Intuition, Health, and Dietetics

Jenna Selley (@jennaselley) and I talk all things intuition, health, dietetics, and outreach during episode 15.

You know, over the last few months I've put a lot of energy into understanding thought impulses and what effect that energy manifests itself into throughout my life. Clichés that come to mind when bringing up this topic include some dreary quotes like "Either you run the day, or the day runs you" or some more common quotes such as "whatever the mind can conceive, it can achieve".

At the time of Jen's reaching out about the podcast, I had caught myself wondering how in fact she was doing and what about her knowledge and expertise could I potentially borrow for my audience to learn from, and for my "Thinkers" during my day-job to implement. Thus, something had ensured we were to connect again and from that connection came this wonderful conversation.

A person whom in very many respects has a similar perspective on life, health, fitness, and philanthropy as what I do. Jen and I spoke at length about her deep knowledge as a young dietician, and what intuitive eating and knowing your body has on the quality of life a person is able to live.

As per every episode on this podcast, I tried to guide the conversation in such a way that it humanized the Jenna Selley behind the C.V and bedside table, pen-in-hand. Without me having to probe too much at all, Jen was able to relate her first-hand experiences with food, intuitive eating, and the people she has helped over the years with a resource bank of tangible tools that you as the listener can apply right away. To me, despite her time in her career, Jen shows an impressive ability to practically advise how to apply the information "we all already know!"

In a society that constantly advertises what we should and shouldn’t do, it is easy to get lost in all the information on the ‘latest findings’. Nutrition, in particular, is a topic which most people have an opinion on, but more often mirror the voices of others. We all only have one heart, one set of organs, one mind, One Body.

And as a result, we should not be timid nor shy to consciously strive to become the healthiest versions of ourselves. Through body, mind, and soul. That, and of course, trusting your dietician!

    Enjoy

#14. Didi Mathibe - Life in Chapters

#14. Didi Mathibe - Life in Chapters

One of my longest and deepest relationships through friendship is put on a beautiful display through Episode 14's conversation with Didi Mathibe (@didi_mathibe).

The days leading up to our conversation were weird. There's no other way to put it. Protests around the globe had broken out around "Justice for George Floyd". The Black Lives Matter movement had been amplified, debated, and vivisected from every angle on and offline. A giant explosion had killed 135 people and injured over 5000 from a warehouse in Beruit. The threat of the Coronavirus was still very, very much upon us, and all during the same time, I was trying to make sense of what "this all means" in my own little world.

Then, my intention to invite Didi to the show revealed itself amidst the global turmoil. Why now? Why this way and through this platform? These were two questions she had actually asked me during our intro call prior to recording and it forced me to think long and hard about that word - "intention."

At the time of her asking, I had already begun my own journey of unlearning, listening, and re-visiting the heart-work to try and make sense of HOW I actually understood my own privilege; as well as what healing, freedom, and justice for Black people across the globe looked like today. Like many of you, I was having those uncomfortable conversations with myself and trying my utmost best to soak in any and all information from those around me. When Didi had then asked me "Why now?" and "Why this way and through this platform?", insecurities of my own had revered it's ugly head as it dawned that perhaps I was seeking comfortability by talking to a Black womxn whom I know and trust to "stumble" my way through my own vulnerabilities, through a means that I was comfortable with [conversation], without the "risk" of being scrutinized for being ignorant.

Didi could see right through me. I hated it. I loved it.

This empathetic nomad from South Africa who's just trying to find a spot in the world, or in herself, that feels like home is someone I heartfeltly consider one of the most beautiful souls the world has to boast. She was able to hold a space for our conversation to be had in the most authentic way I could've ever imagined by allowing me into her world in a way that I am extremely grateful for. Through a recording with her from across the world (she's currently in Bolivia) Didi portrayed compassion, empathy, love, kindness, and a hearty laugh as we went about her life's chapters.

#13. Brett Sparg - Life and Movement

#13. Brett Sparg - Life and Movement

Brett Sparg (@spargy15) - A good friend, mentor, and Greek-God-like human being introduces you to Episode 13!

Admittedly, Spargs had been on my radar for some time before I had invited him to be apart of the show. We all have people in life whom we're watching (as creepy as that sounds!). These same people, should you connect with their personal philosophy, are the influencers we're learning and taking inspiration into our lives from through their zest for life. Personally, it was a no-brainer as over the last few months it became so apparent that it was now time to invite one of my "distant" role models to have a conversation with.

For those who don't know any of Brett's story; a born-and-bred Cape Tonian with a deep loving for the city and the surrounding ocean he grew up in. Just by watching his online fitness classes with the Ignite Fitness crew or a casual social media stalk, you may or may not be intimidated by this +40-year-old rugged stud and the way he moves in space and fitness #lifegoals. However, Spargs is a gentle giant with zero chip on his shoulder who radiates humility and to be honest - inspiration.

Our conversation ebbed and flowed between early childhood to adulthood victories in sports and the experiences which shaped his worldview on life as a result of it. I'll let you be the judge in deciding whether the under-6 50m sprint race had more of an effect on Spargy's life than "finding surfing" or playing 80 caps for the Saracens First Rugby team. As exceptionally interesting as what this was to talk about, there was a moment early on in our conversation which made me feel as if I was literally walking in the shoes of this brilliant man.

For the first time in a long while, I found that I was able to connect with another man almost twice my senior who could relate to ME and understand my journey as if it were me looking back in time. There's a beauty to this experience which even now, I struggle to really interpret. Spargs allowed himself to be vulnerable about his past and present during our conversation, which gave me the opportunity to truly connect with both.

Yes, his fitness, sporting & business accolades are something to admire. However, his relationship with life, people, and way of being is one that inspires. Enjoy!
