089 - Police and Fire Family Repercussions: Chris Moore

Text a Message to the ShowToday we're talking to Chris Moore, a Virginia-based firefighter whose father was a police officer. Chris is a great interview because he's got a lifetime of experience wrestling with the ups and downs of first responder behavioral health, both firsthand and as a child of a cop. Chris brings a radical level of transparency to this conversation and I want you to especially notice the three unhealthy coping mechanisms he says he turned to through most of hi...

Surviving My Suicide: Doug Monda; An Excerpt from the Archives

Text a Message to the ShowTwo years ago we talked with Doug Monda and this is a special abbreviated and condensed version of that interview with him. The original is Episode 022. Doug Monda was a professional athlete turned high-speed, low-drag SWAT cop, in a Florida city with a very high rate violent crime. His identity was wrapped up in being an a very active athlete and operator… until that was suddenly taken away by a serious injury. This led to depression, post traumati...

    088 - Multi-Generational Steele: Kevin Steele

Text a Message to the ShowThere are two conflicting truisms in law enforcement: one is old and one is new. First, it's stereotypical that cops, when you ask them, don't want their kids to go into the same line of work. Second, it's becoming more and more true that law enforcement families are some of the only reliable places to find applicants for the job. Police work, like firefighting and the military, is becoming a family business and we're seeing more multi-generational ...

Hours Long Binge

I recently had a 16+ hour road trip and discovered this podcast at a Peer Support Chaplaincy Conference a few weeks ago. I decided to listen to a couple episodes to see what Hey Chaplain was about. 9 episodes later I was still listening making my trip fly by. I enjoy that each episode has great insight for both First Responders and Chaplains. I took away something from each episode. Each episode is usually under 40 minutes or made into two parts making it easy to listen to on a short commute or binge multiple episodes on a long road trip from the archives.

Just what I need and needed

January 1, 2023, we started, with an inaugural group of pastors, Chaplain‘s ministry for our county. throughout our time of trying to put together a Chaplain ministry, we struggled with what to do, what to include, training, and certifications. How do we do what we do when we don’t have an example to follow. We are just starting.
I did a lot of research and we got to do different trainings and we have developed what will be a wonderful chaplains ministry here.
Also, being someone that listens to podcasts, I checked out many different ones. However, Jared‘s podcast has struct accord in my heart, and I do my best to share it with other, law-enforcement, other chaplains, and pretty much anybody that wants to listen to me talk a little bit about chaplaincy.
I am currently doing my best to be back in shape and so I do a lot of walking and this is my podcast of choice. I am learning about different ministries that can be a part of chaplaincy as well as part of law-enforcement that I have never understood before.
Thank you so much, Jared, for what you do, for what you have done, and what you continue to do for the Law Enforcement community, and those that happen upon your podcast.
Lastly, I asked some of our deputies about their worst car, and it seems that the Crown Vic is probably the Victor of the worst. 😁
Thanks again!
