Horror Movie Survival Guide is a weekly podcast where two unlikely gorehounds and long time chums, one a hardcore horror fan with a notebook to prove it, and the other finally coming out of the creepy horror fandom closet - watch and talk about horror film from a survival point of view. We ask the question - how can we end up as the final girl? Join Julia and Teri as we take a deep dive into everything from OG horror to newly released films,(but preferably Classics on VHS). We'll talk about obscure details that no one else notices, spin off into alternate casting universes, crush on some dodgy fellows (and creepy uncles), and arm ourselves with the knowledge necessary to become the Final Girl.

The Thing is the thing...

Love your show ladies! To answer your question as to why The Thing did so poorly at the box office:
I have heard it is because E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial came out June 11th 1982 and The Thing came out June 25th 1982. I believe the nation was enamoured with the friendly, loveable alien and really didn't want to see the gore-tastic suspense filled monstrosity of The Thing at that time in the summer of '82.
It was really bad timing to present an Sci-Fi Horror literally 2 weeks after Speilberg's Sci-Fi family opus.
Btw: I am sporting the MacReady beard and haircut myself. I am a John Carpenter junkie and I own The Thing Board Game which is a blast with 6 or more people.
I look forward to hearing more of your reviews! Please review Prince of Darkness one day!

Engaging!

Newly minted fan. One of the best horror themed podcasts. Love the feminine perspective. The chemistry is tangible!
