Horror Movie Survival Guide is a weekly podcast where two unlikely gorehounds and long time chums, one a hardcore horror fan with a notebook to prove it, and the other finally coming out of the creepy horror fandom closet - watch and talk about horror film from a survival point of view. We ask the question - how can *we* end up as the final girl? Join Julia Marchese and Teri Gamble as we take a deep dive into everything from OG horror to newly released films (but preferably classics on VHS). We'll talk about obscure details that no one else notices, spin off into alternate casting universes, crush on some foxy, dodgy fellows (and creepy uncles), and arm ourselves with the knowledge necessary to become The Final Girl.

HMSG Interview David M. Booher! - "The Black Phone"
This week we are thrilled to be interviewing a friend and fan of the show DAVID M. BOOHER!
Booher grew up in a small Ohio town reading Stephen King, watching The Goonies, eating Lucky Charms in front of He-Man, trading Garbage Pail Kids, playing Nintendo, and going outside. Channeling his love for all the best 1980’s sci-fi and fantasy, he has co-created and written comic series CANTO, POWERLESS, the LGBTQ-led KILLER QUEENS, ALIEN BOUNTY HUNTER, RAIN, ALL NEW FIREFLY, and the middle grade series TALES OF LAKE EERIE. He's also written several features. A lawyer by training, he lives in Los Angeles with his husband and the true masterminds behind their operation--their adopted greyhounds.
We discuss lots of Stephen King, adapting writing between mediums and cover THE BLACK PHONE (2022) starring Ethan Hawke & based on a story by one of Booher's collaborators - JOE HILL!

The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane - "This is My House!"
This  week we celebrate the talented Jodie Foster who gives a powerhouse performance in THE LITTLE GIRL WHO LIVES DOWN THE LANE (1976). This films brings up the themes of personhood, ageism, ableism and misogyny as this "little girl" tries to survive, presumably on her own, in a hardened New England town.
Filmed the same year as Taxi Driver, Bugsy Malone & Freaky Friday - proving Jodie Foster was the hardest working kid from 1975-1976!

The Scary of Sixty-First - "Shrill & Annoying"
What's scarier than the story of Jeffrey Epstein and his trafficking and torture of women? THE SCARY OF SIXTY-FIRST (2021) by filmmaker Dasha Nekrasova (star of the TV show Succession)  explores the shadows and ghosts of his victims that live on in one of his old flop house apartments. An important story, but a punishing watch.
