Deep Dives and Deep Cuts: the History of Punk, Post-punk and New Wave (1976-1986)

Join Rob and Joseph as they chronologically discuss all the notable albums of the punk/new wave movement. From the messy, anarchic noise of the early 70’s proto-punk rockers to the tired, polished death-rattles of the mid-80’s corporate synth-poppers, no stone goes unturned in their quest to fully examine the birth, life and death of “the wave” that produced some of the most beloved songs in modern popular music.
A Must follow for Gen X music fans

DDDC has taken on the daunting task of reviewing all known punk releases during the onset of the genre through when they had the most influence. An awesome education in punk and affiliated sub genres. Joseph and Rob are great hosts. This is the one podcast I can’t wait to listen to each month. And it’s approved by all the Jeffs!

Fantastic podcast. Knowledgeable and passionate hosts and great guests. It sure helps that Post-Punk, New Wave and the myriad offshoots and side roads have been my musical diet for over 40 years. Despite being quite a nerd on this subject, I find myself learning new things. Very highly recommended!!

This Podcast is Fantastic!! I was a pre-teen, teen in the 1980s and this genre spoke to me from the get go. It is nice to have this history revisited. It brought back memories of heading to Tower Records on Sunset and briefly meeting these artists as they signed our CDs, Records. Well done to the hosts. I rate this top stars. For the new generations of listeners: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, this is your music school right here for a great time in one of the most dynamic times that New Wave usher in. It defined not just the music, but how we looked in fashion, graphic arts, soundtracks to movies and the origin of visual output on Video One, Friday Night Videos and of course MTV.

The format for this podcast covers every notable punk/post-punk/ new wave album released on a month by month basis from 76-86. Even if you disagree with the hosts Joseph and Rob on the virtues of any particular band its ultimately a moot point. I guarantee that anyone who listens with a somewhat open mind will find at least one new favorite band or album almost every few episodes! I worked in record stores and “knew my stuff” about this music I thought but happily will confess my ignorance in hindsight about certain bands early material, bands that fizzled quickly etc etc. Well worth the journey!
