EP. 077 Contract Negotiation Strategies for Independent Consultants

EP. 077 Contract Negotiation Strategies for Independent Consultants

As an independent consultant, when you think about negotiations, one of two things occurs. You either try to do everything in your power to avoid negotiating because it feels so uncomfortable, or you end up rushing through the process, just trying to make it go away.
In either case, what ends up happening is you're running a business that feels regretful since you've agreed to something that you wish you hadn't, or you question and self-doubt wondering what you may have left on the table.
In this episode, I want to share with you the best approach to consulting contract negotiations so you can run a business where you replace the regret and second-guessing with a process that generates new business, where you feel fairly compensated, and where your clients are getting value.

Essential listening

I happened upon Melissa’s podcast as I was learning to start my own business. Invaluable insights presented clearly and accessibly. Lots of practical tools and tips to stay disciplined and grow your business. Thank you!!

Exactly what I need!

Really enjoying Melisa's insights on getting started and building your IC business! It's just the right length and I always walk away with something I can use right away. What I especially like is that Melisa gently, but firmly, calls out "excuses" covered as explanations (yes, I do feel "caught" at times - in the best possible way) and then helps the listener understand, work through and find ways to resolve them. Thank you!

Concise, insightful, usable!

Melissa packs an impressive amount of helpful ideas into a 30-minute period! Most episodes start with high-level thoughts and then drill down into specific examples, specific tips, and specific pitfall. “Specific” is the key word because consulting is a broad topic and while Melissa acknowledges that the path to consulting success should vary by individual, she doesn’t leave it at “find what works for you.” She understands that her audience is listening to learn from her experience and to gain practical ideas that we can use ourselves. Thank you!
