    Navigating Gender: A Tarot Exploration

    Navigating Gender: A Tarot Exploration

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I’m sitting down with The Gender Doula, Eli Lawliet, PhD. Eli (he/him) is the dreamer and weaver of The Gender Doula. In addition to a decade of experience researching trans healthcare, law, policy, and history, he has formal training as a full spectrum doula, breathwork facilitator, and tarot reader, as well as many years of surviving the world of poverty wages and retail work.

The broad scope of his experience directly informs the equally broad spectrum of his work as The Gender Doula. Eli has been seeing clients since January of 2020 and has worked with trans folks nationally and internationally in sessions, classes, and workshops. Though he was born in Oklahoma and raised in Missouri, Eli currently lives in Los Angeles (Gabrieliño-Tongva, Chumash, & Kizh land) with his partner, three cats, a dog, and four snakes.

I invite you to join Eli and I as we nerd out on the construct of gender through the lens of tarot. We touch on cards such as The Hanged Man, The Empress, and The Emperor. This conversation is full of beautiful, potent metaphors that take us down a winding path of deeper thinking about ourselves and our relationship to gender and the tarot.

I Can Do it With a Broken Heart

I Can Do it With a Broken Heart

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I’m doing something I have never done before. I am exploring tarot through the lens of music - specifically the iconic Taylor Swift. Swift recently took the world by storm (as she always does) not just via her Eras world tour, but by dropping a (double) album in the midst of the tour.

Admittedly, I have never been a Swiftie and only recently started listening to her music when she released Midnights. I tend to listen to more obscure metal and indie folk music - I know…weird mix. But it is what it is.

Anyway, I was listening to Swift’s new Tortured Poets Department album and really enjoyed the irony and sarcasm throughout the song “I Can Do It With A Broken Heart.” I kept thinking about cards that would depict this song and found it to be a fun way to deepen my connection to the cards.

So, I invite you to join me on an exciting trip through one of Taylor Swift’s newest songs as I psychoanalyze the meanings of the lyrics through the archetypal symbols of The Empress, Seven of Cups, Ten of Wands, Five of Cups, reversed Ace of Cups, Eight of Pentacles, Three of Swords, and The Magician.

Check out “I Can Do It With A Broken Heart” here!

    Tarot & Social Psychology

    Tarot & Social Psychology

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I’m getting nerdy and exploring the topic of Tarot and Social Psychology. I spend time dissecting the concepts of power, authority, conformity, and prejudice through the lens of tarot archetypes and then I dive into the world of attitudes and actions.

I guide listeners through an enlightening exercise I first introduced to members of The Tarot Diagnosis community - The Symposium during a monthly workshop series. Tune in to participate in a social psychology and tarot exercise to help you better understand yourself and deepen your relationship to the cards.

    Tarot for Your Existential Crisis

    Tarot for Your Existential Crisis

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I’m getting existential. There’s been an uptick in discussion in my therapy practice around the concept of death, the meaning of life, and existential dread. So, naturally I’m turning to tarot to help me examine, ponder, and even come to terms with my own existential dread.

The Five of Cups, Queen of Swords, Hanged Man, Two of Wands, and Nine of Cups all make an appearance and help to write the narrative of an existential crisis. I’m inspired by Freud’s essay “On Transience” as well as the work of Dr. Irvin Yalom this episode.

    Individuation with The World

    Individuation with The World

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I’m back after a short hiatus with the anchor of The World. I reflect personally on what this card represents for me as I feel like I’m very much in the middle of a World moment - a lot of culmination, completion, and new beginnings swirling around me. All of which is why I have been rather quiet on social media and the podcast the last few months. I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out after noticing I had been a bit quiet. Rest assured, I’ll be back to regular, weekly episodes soon!

For now, enjoy this brand new episode where I explore The World card through the lens of Carl Jung’s concept of individuation and through Richard Schwartz’s Internal Family Systems (aka Parts Work - because you all know I love some parts work!).

I also walk you through a specific exercise rooted in IFS theory to help you better understand your true core self! So, grab your favorite deck and follow along with me.

    Judgement: A True Awakening

    Judgement: A True Awakening

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I am joined by author and artist Monica Bodirsky. Together we traverse the world of Judgement and explore how powerful language can be when it comes to tarot and the importance of using our *discretion* when it comes to not only how we interpret the cards, but also the words, meanings, and associations we assign to them.

Monica Bodirsky is an artist, author, and professional consultant whose specialty is tarot. Her innovative approach empowers individuals by creating work that builds bridges to unseen realms where connections to self, ancestral wisdom, and the environment are cultivated.

She is the author and artist of seven tarot, oracle and Lenormand decks and guidebooks including the bestselling Shadowland Tarot (Red Feather Mind, Body and Spirit) and the recently released Awakening Tarot: An Elemental Approach.

As the founder of WITCHfest North Arts and Culture Festival, she is an advocate of community and capacity building and a sought-after speaker at several annual international, metaphysical and divination conferences.

With a Bachelor’s degree in Design, she taught at OCAD University for ten years and currently holds multidisciplinary art and spirituality residencies in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
