Netting Over $1 Million A Year

Netting Over $1 Million A Year

In this episode, John and Kelly discuss netting over $1 million a year. Which only one third of 1% of people are able to do. John talks about when he was first able to do this in his early 50s. It happened because he had immensely more control over himself. He could do now five high-performance skills he couldn’t do before. He was highly organized. Planned this day the night before and time blocked his day. He was deep thinking two times a week. He was growing intellectually, in areas that were strategic relative to what he wanted to accomplish. He was focused only on what moves the needle. And he had control over his daily actions, 95% which are unconscious. Kelly goes on to say that when she crossed over to netting over million dollars a year, it allowed her to just have more impact. Those same five high-performance skills were things she could now do consistently. John goes on to talk about how important it is that you choose a business that is leveraged. As an example, he talks about how in the reverse mortgage business he would make $30,000 a reverse mortgage versus when he sold his time by the hour as a CPA he make $200 an hour. John also recounts how he celebrated the first time he went over that magic milestone of netting over million dollars a year.

    John Mitchell
John’s story is pretty amazing. After spending 20 years as an entrepreneur, John was 50 years old but wasn’t as successful as he thought he should be. To rectify that, he decided to find the “top book in the world” on SUCCESS and apply that book literally Word for Word to his life. That Book is Think & Grow Rich. The book says there’s a SECRET for success, but the author only gives you half the secret. John figured out the full secret and a 12 minute a day technique to apply it.
When John applied his 12 minute a day technique to his life, he saw his yearly income go to over $5 million a year, after 20 years of $200k - 300k per year. The 25 times increase happened because John LEVERAGED himself by applying science to his life.
His daily technique works because it focuses you ONLY on what moves the needle, triples your discipline, and consistently generates new business ideas every week. This happens because of 3 key aspects of the leveraging process.
John’s technique was profiled on the cover of Time Magazine. He teaches it at the University of Texas’ McCombs School of Business, which is one the TOP 5 business schools in the country. He is also the “mental coach” for the head athletic coaches at the University of Texas as well.

    There’s More In The Tank

    There’s More In The Tank

In this episode, John and Kelly discuss something that Kelly actually said to John when she met him. She said she felt like there was more in the tank. She couldn’t understand the disconnect between her efforts and your results. Why weren’t the results better. Again, there was more in the tank that she couldn’t get out. Then as John started to teach her the methodology, he explained to her why she felt that way. Your daily actions determine your success in each area of your life. 95% of your daily actions are unconscious. Therefore if you’re not gaining control over those unconscious daily actions, you’re playing the game of life at 5% of your potential. That’s why you feel like there’s more in the tank. John went on to explain that he felt there was more in the tank when he turned 50. But he also realized he just wasn’t taking the right actions. The actions he was taking was netting him $200,000 a year. But when he started taking the right actions, he made 25 times that. John talks about the five high performance skills that he learned in his 50s that are reaffirmed in his daily visualization. He had to be a 10 on organization. So he created a very simple powerful system. Another high-performance skills was setting aside time to just think two times a week. The third one was using a system to bring in the wisdom of experts into his head each and every week. In strategic areas he needed. The fourth high-performance skill was focusing on what moves the needle. And really understanding what that is. And then the fifth high-performance skill was leveraging himself by understanding how the human mind works. Kelly points out that virtually every client of think it be it says that they feel like there is more in the tank when they start the process. John talks about how when he tries to influence people, he now asked them five questions. First, how driven are you? They need to be a nine or 10. Second question is how do you create success in your life? Most people won’t have a way. Third question is do you feel like there is more in the tank? Then the fourth question is how important is it to play at your full potential? And then the fifth question is what is your morning routine. The lesson John has learned is that you influence people more with questions than by telling them.

You’ve Got To Figure Out Your Life

You’ve Got To Figure Out Your Life

In this episode, John and Kelly discuss that is on you to figure out your life. John talks about coming to grips with this when he was 50 years old. And not only did he have to accept full responsibility, he also saw that he had to figure out the specific actions he had to take to create the life he wanted. A big challenge. But then the answer appeared. It came from think and grow Rich. Create immense clarity about your life. Exactly the person you want to be, exactly what you want to accomplish, and precisely how you’re going to achieve your clearly defined goals. Feed that to yourself every day. Then the right actions happen automatically without thinking. But what’s significant here is that when you start with the end in mind and work backwards, the right actions to take become apparent. During this podcast John and Kelly talk about how most people are just winging life, re-creating the past. To some degree this is happening because people are shallow thinking. They’re not deep thinking. That’s a result of the flip through culture we live in. But here’s the bottom line of what we learned today. Accept the fact that you have to accept full responsibility for your life. Not looking for anyone else or looking for external factors to change. Then you need to figure out the right actions to take. That happens from starting with the end in mind and working backwards. See you what you want to achieve and the right actions will become obvious. Then feed that to yourself every day. That’s what makes the right actions then happen automatically without thinking. Profoundly simple.

    Doing Your Best Doesn't Work

    Doing Your Best Doesn't Work

In this episode, John and Kelly discuss the idea that the doing your best doesn’t work. John discusses that when he was 40 years old, he adopted the strategy for success of just doing his best. That’s all he controlled. So that’s what he focused on. Doing his best. But that didn’t produce big results. Then he got enlightened in his 50s. He understood fundamentally how success works. It comes down to your daily actions. And if you don’t know the proper daily actions to take, even though you might be doing your best, you won’t have big success. What John learned is that the key to being successful is creating immense clarity about your life. Defining exactly the person you want to be, exactly what you want to accomplish, and precisely how you’re going to achieve your clearly defined goals. By defining that, then you see the right actions you take. It becomes obvious. And then you feed that clarity to yourself every day. That impacts your daily actions. And your upgraded daily actions then creates the life you want.
The point of all that is that just doing your best may not have you doing the right actions, despite your best intentions. John also talks about in his 30s and 40s he was only playing at 5% of his potential. He didn’t have a high level of control over himself. In his 50s he did from figuring out the full secret of think and grow Rich. And lastly John talks about how in his 50s doing his best came down to five things. Effort, focusing on what moves the needle, tuning into reality, consistently growing every week, and understanding how the human mind works. In John’s 30s and 40s, he only knew to give effort. To get up at 5:30 AM each day and work hard.

Influence – Influencing Other People, Influencing Yourself (Encore)

In this episode John and Kelly talk about how we are all in the influence business. And influence has two components to it. First, influencing yourself. That means getting yourself to do the key habits required to be successful. Having discipline. John talks about how this is leadership of self. Which means having the mindset of I can achieve anything I set my mind to. I own my results and am never a victim. Being able to summon up grit and perseverance when things don’t go well. Kelly then talked about how she influences other people like her team. By being authentic and doing what she says she’s going to do. John talks about the book how to win friends and influence people. This classic book. The power of seeing people’s first name in conversations. The power of seeing things from the other person’s point of view. Smiling. The wrap-up to this podcast explains how you can make influencing both yourself and other people happen automatically without thinking using our 12 minute day technique.

    Wisdom Transfer Dilemma

    Wisdom Transfer Dilemma

In this episode, John and Kelly discuss the challenge of taking wisdom and sharing it with other people. John talks about a statue that sits in his den. It has three men that are climbing. The lowest guy is struggling, the middle guy is going sideways, and the third guy is going straight up. When John looks at that statue each morning, he thinks about his own life. The guy at the lowest level was was John in his 30s. The guy going sideways was John in his 40s. And the guy going straight up John in his 50s. John sees that when he started going straight up in his 50s, he saw and understood things he never understood before. He gained wisdom from the book Think and Grow Rich. He was just operating on a higher level. He understood how the human mind worked, and that was the difference Kelly talks about how she has learned from other people as well. But so often people in their 30s and 40s don’t think they have that much to learn. So they’re not receptive to the wisdom of others. But John points out that oftentimes the wisdom is something profoundly simple. It’s not like you’re learning to split the atom. Like for John learning that 95% of his daily actions was unconscious was critical. Learning how the human mind works. Ultimately he learned how to work smarter not harder.
