Ep. 58 - How Polyvagal Theory Explains Masking in PDA Children

Parents often ask me how their three-year-old PDA child could possibly be masking before they've even started preschsool and seen much of how other kids behave. It's a great question, and one I asked many times as well.
In this episode I dig into the answer, according to Polyvagal Theory.

Ep. 57 - Conversation with Dr. Alex Klein, Clinical Psychologist

Ep. 57 - Conversation with Dr. Alex Klein, Clinical Psychologist

In this episode Dr. Alex Klein and I answer questions that families submitted. If you'd like to submit a question for one of our future conversations, here is where you can do so: https://www.atpeaceparents.com/submit-question-klein-ehrlich
Here's some of the questions we took on for this episode:
How do you know if the behavior you are observing as a parent is from ADHD or PDA? What are the differences and similarities? Why are psychologists so resistant to recognizing PDA? (Asked as “What is wrong with Psychologists that they can’t see this as a neurotype!?!” 😊)Are psychologists helpful at all if they aren’t PDA themselves? Is it even worth trying to find a psychologist? What do you do if ABA is recommended by a doctor, but intuitively you don't think it is the right fit?

Kaitnicoleanagno ,

Thank you

when I thought I was lost at sea forever, I saw her light shining strongly and proudly, in the corner of the sea that parents float to when their calls for help go ignored because they look like strong enough swimmers, perhaps their lifeboat springs a leak and capsizes… Alas, here she stands (speaks?): emanating a warmth which guides us to her source of strength of soul. All the guilt I had been carrying around regarding my parenting choices, that were intuitive yet against society norms, was immediately assuaged after listening to Casey articulate the information and her experiences in her podcasts. Listening to her podcast is soul-healing, truly. It feels like a warm hug from a longtime friend who just truly understands.

Not a fool2 ,

Please read — this is a scam

I have delved into Casey Ehrlich’s podcast, website, and instagram. She is not qualified to help people with their child’s behavior (her phd is in political science). She uses made up terminology that makes it sound like she’s a doctor, but she is not. She is charging 500 a month for people to listen to her wisdom and getting those people to recruit others. In short, she is taking advantage of desperate parents. I do not doubt that she too was once a desperate parent, but I don’t think she should present as an expert. She even has tips for how to deal with people who doubt her theories or terminology — sounds like a cult to me. I think raising kids is hard. Do I think parents should give up and be at peace with not trying to help their kids get on in school and in society? No. I think we should listen to medical professionals. I hope someone reports her to the Michigan attorney general and gets people their money back.

Connects observations to neurology

Thank you Casey for your clear, calm teaching about PDA and how a child’s observable behavior can be understood in the context of neurology and nervous system function. Your rational, caring, humorous approach is a wonderful model!
