Beyond Awareness: Closing the Gap Between Knowing and Doing

Samantha Hawley | Inspired by Brene Brown, Glennon Doyle, Marie Forleo, Hillary Kerr, Mel Robbins

Beyond Awareness (formerly Journal Entries) is for successful women in leadership and business who know exactly what they need to do but can't make themselves do it. You know you need to prioritize yourself, delegate more, set boundaries, stop bringing work home. You've tried therapy, coaching, retreats. You know the solution - but you either can't follow through, or when you DO, it doesn't stick. Host Samantha Hawley helps business owners and executives earning $100k+ excavate the root beliefs underneath the execution gap. Why do you keep not doing the thing? Why doesn't it feel better when you do? Using strategic journaling and emotional excavation, we go beyond awareness into why you're actually stuck in the pattern. This isn't about more tactics or tips. This is about understanding why awareness isn't enough and what actually needs to shift for you to change. You'll hear about: decision fatigue, why you can't prioritize yourself, nervous system regulation, being present with your kids, root cause of overwhelm, why boundaries don't stick, self-sabotage patterns, and how your internal state impacts everything. Perfect for: Female CFOs, VPs, directors, executives, business owners, and women in leadership who are tired of knowing what's wrong but not being able to change it.

    233. Why You Keep Falling Back Into Old Patterns (Even After Doing the Work)

You did the work. You named the belief. You felt the shift. And then somehow… you’re right back in it. Saying yes when you meant no. Filling your time again. Second guessing yourself. Apologizing after you finally spoke up. It makes you question everything. Like maybe it didn’t actually stick. You’re back at square one. This is the part no one prepares you for. Releasing a belief isn’t the finish line. It’s where things start to get real. Old patterns don’t just disappear. They come back in quieter, sneakier ways. And if you don’t recognize them, it’s so easy to think you’re doing something wrong. You’re not. What’s happening here is part of the process. The discomfort, the pull to go back, the confusion… it’s your system trying to find what’s familiar. Once you can see how it shows up for you, you move through it differently. Not perfectly. But with awareness that actually changes something. If you’ve been in that space of “I thought I already worked through this,” this will land. 232. Journal With Me: From "I Don't Know My Purpose" to Finally Seeing It

You’re asked what you’re passionate about and your mind goes blank. Not because it’s not there. Because you haven’t slowed down long enough to hear it. Your days are full. Work, kids, responsibilities, constant output. You keep everything running, but somewhere in that, you lost connection with what actually lights you up. So instead of trying to “find” your purpose, this is where you start seeing it differently. Through what you’ve already lived. Not something you need to go out and create. Today you’re sitting down with your journal and walking through prompts that bring you back to yourself in a way that actually feels honest. Journal Prompts When someone asks what you’re passionate about or what lights you up, what happens? Do you go blank? Change the subject? Give an answer that doesn’t feel true?Think about the hardest season of your life. What was actually happening? How did it feel? How did you cope during that time? What did you do to protect yourself, your time, or your energy? What came out of that season? Who did you become? What did you figure out?Because of what I went through, I am really good at…............Picture someone in the middle of what you already survived. What do you want to say to her? What does that show you about what you’re here to do? If you’ve been feeling disconnected, unsure, or like everyone else seems to know what they want except you, this is for you. 230. Journal With Me: How to Stop Relying on External Structure and Start Trusting Yourself

You set the alarm. You follow the plan. You stick to the routine. But underneath it, there’s this quiet fear that if you don’t, everything might fall apart. So you keep relying on structure to hold you together. Today, we go deeper into that pattern. Not to fix it, but to understand what’s actually driving it and where it came from. Journal Prompts: Where in your life are you relying on an external structure, system, or routine to keep yourself in check? What are you afraid would happen if that structure disappeared? Get specific about what losing control actually looks like.Where did you learn that you couldn’t be trusted to handle that on your own?Is there any evidence that that belief isn’t always true? Where have you been okay or even better without the structure? What would it feel like to trust yourself in that area? And what is one small way you can test that this week? Pick one and actually do it this week. Notice what happens. If you’ve ever felt like you need rules, routines, or systems just to stay in control, this is for you. 228. Journal With Me: When Being Called Sweet Doesn’t Feel Like a Compliment

You hear it and something in you tightens. “You’re so sweet.” It's meant as a compliment. But sometimes it lands differently. Almost like the word is pointing at something smaller than who you really are. In Tuesday’s episode we talked about reclaiming sweetness as strength. Today we are looking at the meaning you have attached to that word and where that story came from. Journal PromptsWhen someone calls you sweet, how does it land? What are the positive meanings and what are the ones that do not sit well with you?Where did those negative meanings come from? Was there a moment, relationship, or tone that shaped how you interpret the word sweet? Were those people actually defining you? Or was the word reflecting something you already felt about yourself? What proof do you have that the negative version is not the full truth?Where have you been bold, decisive, or direct even if it was quietly?Finish these sentences. I want sweet to mean that I am…...I want my sweetness to be perceived as…...Looking at your answer above, are you already living that? If yes, celebrate it. If not, what is one small step you can take this week? If you do this exercise, I would love to hear what came up for you. 227. How to Stop People Pleasing and Still Be Seen as Sweet

Someone calls you sweet. It sounds like a compliment. But something about it feels off. Because sometimes “sweet” carries an unspoken meaning underneath. Easygoing. Agreeable. The person who keeps the peace instead of saying what they actually want to say. Over time that can quietly turn into people pleasing. This episode is about the complicated relationship many of us have with the word sweet. How it can feel both kind and diminishing at the same time. Especially in work and relationships where being taken seriously matters. After a conversation where Sam spoke up, challenged someone, and asked direct questions, the feedback she heard was that she was sweet. That moment raised a new possibility. Maybe sweetness does not cancel out clarity. Maybe you can ask for what you need, say what you actually think, and still be someone people experience as kind. If being nice has ever made it harder to speak up, this conversation might change how you think about it. The episode ends with a few journaling questions to reflect on what sweetness means to you and whether it could actually be one of your strengths. 226. Thinking About Work 24/7 Isn’t Passion - It’s Keeping You From Being Present

You're at dinner and you're already mentally planning tomorrow's client call. You've been calling it passion. Dedication. But what if it's actually the thing standing between you and the life you keep saying you want? Last night I did a future self visualization that felt like a total flop. No income numbers, no business wins, no morning routine inspo. Just a calm, confident woman looking back at me. And honestly? It bummed me out at first. What came up after that is what this episode is really about. I'd been wearing constant work thoughts like a badge of honor, proof that I cared, proof that I was built for this. And the idea of not thinking about work felt like slipping. This one is raw, unscripted, and I'm sharing it as it came to me. If you have a few minutes, reflect on this Journal prompts: Start with the work if that’s what comes up first. Money. Business goals. Success. What do your relationships actually look like? How do you feel when you walk through your front door? What are you doing simply because you enjoy it?What does being present feel like in your body? Who are you if you’re not thinking about work all the time? Work with me:Breakthrough Intensive - You already know you should slow down, delegate more, stop overcommitting & be emotionally present.
