What’s Your Origin Wound? Define and Heal with Vienna Pharaon

Vienna Pharaon is a licensed marriage and family therapist and one of New York City’s most sought after relationship therapists. She has practiced therapy for over fifteen years and is the founder and owner of the group practice, Mindful Marriage and Family Therapy. Pharaon has been featured in numerous publications, and has led workshops for Peloton and Netflix, amongst others. Her book The Origins of You is a National Bestseller. Vienna’s new book The Origins of You - How Breaking Family Patterns Can Liberate the Way We Live and Love unlocks a healing process to help us understand our Family of Origin—the family and framework we grew up within — and examine what worked (and didn’t) in that system. Certain dysfunctions (or “wounds”) in that Family of Origin will manifest in our adult behaviors in surprising ways, from work challenges to interpersonal struggles. But the good news is: Armed with the knowledge about our past, we can actually rewire our programming to meaningfully improve our relationships and our lives in the future. The five wound categories are Trust, Worthiness, Belonging, Safety and Prioritization. Listen to Sara and Vienna talk about all of this and help you decipher your origin wounds, how to understand how it may be holding you back, Create a new Framework and how to heal.

    Spring Cleaning Your Life

    Spring Cleaning Your Life

So, it started with clothes. Sara wasn’t feeling the things in her closet were “her” and wanted to throw out what wasn't working for her anymore. This inspired a “spring cleaning” state of mind. But as she thought about getting rid of the old clothes and making conscious decisions about what stays, goes, and how each thing is replaced- or not, it started a present life review of more than just the clothes. This started a reflection and appraisal of business, friends, home, clothes and whatever else is ready for assessment. Sara and her boys had moved from a large house after the divorce to a small bungalow by the beach. She asked them to really think about what they wanted to bring with them, what really made them feel good, and what was not needed. They did this (without complaints) and they have been in the bungalow for 7 years when it was going to be just 2.

Sara believes in the 80/20 rule. Probably only 20% of what you have, you really, truly need/want. So, this was one of those times that she did her “review” on all things, and she advocates doing this every so often. Look at the friends that you really feel good being with, and those that you actually feel tired from. Look at your home and really look if you can declutter and feel more space and room for good things to come in. The process is an important exploration into yourself right now and evaluating what is really important for you. Oftentimes you will find you don’t even miss the things you leave behind. Happy Spring Cleaning!!

See What Personality Type You Are! Peacock? Panda?

See What Personality Type You Are! Peacock? Panda?

Everyone loves personality tests. Author and creator of the Youtopia Project, Eric Gee, puts a new, more accurate spin on personality typing using his 20 plus years of experience. Want to know if you are a Bear, a Panda, a Peacock, an Owl and which animals you're most compatible with? The Power of Personality, Eric’s new book, outlines 16 easy-to-remember animal archetypes.

Eric says the first question that people ask him is "Who should I hook up with?" Yup. That's the first question people ask him when they learn about his super personal approach to personality and better relationships.

Find out what you are! Take the test here:
    https://youtopiaproject.com/youtopia-16-assessment-2/

The Power of Personality demystifies the sixteen different personality types by teaching the reader how to identify and appreciate their own unique type and that of others. By re-examining previously held assumptions on personality (extroversion vs. introversion, type-A personalities) the reader will be able to understand a person deeper than that person understands themselves.

Sara and Eric talk all about the animal types and the 4 Packs that all the animal types come under. The Packs include Hunter, Gatherer, Shamans and Smiths. Every animal from Peacocks to Butterflies fall under one of these. So you may be a different animal than someone but are within the same Pack.

Sara took the test and knows she’s a Peacock. Eric and she talk about these traits and others.

You can use it to understand others in personal and work life. And even to look at some pop culture icons: Eric tells Sara what he thinks Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are and what their compatibility level may be.

So: listen to the podcast - but one hint: Travis and Tay are both probably under the same Pack- so that bodes well. It’s all fun, but as Sara saw, she really fit the Peacock and a few others took the test and there is a lot of truth in that animal kingdom comparisons.

Have fun, take the test, give to others and get to know your “Tribe” even better.

You Don’t Own Me with Sara

You Don’t Own Me with Sara

Has anyone tried to change you? Own you? Has someone tried to get you to do something you didn’t want to do or go somewhere you really didn’t want to go?

The theme of this podcast is that Noone has the right to control you. Sara has been through the struggle of extricating herself from these situations and in this podcast she shares 10 tips on how to never wind up in that place.

She also has a poignant relationship with the Song “You Don’t Own Me” by artist Lesley Gore, a song from the 60’s that she heard at a particular time after a conversation with her mom. Sara wanted to share the story of how synchronistic it was with her mom. She didn’t get to call her mom for a couple of days, and then her mom passed away before Sara got to share the story. Hear the story on the podcast.

Some of Sara’s 10 Tips to keep your rightful autonomy:

1.Know your Values, your Core of who you are
2.Set boundaries (and stick to them when you know you should)
    3.Learn to say NO
4.Be assertive- stand in confidence and kindness to yourself.

Listen to this podcast for six more tips and stories on this important situation, and share with anyone that can use this.

Also, please like and review the podcast! Thank you. I am so happy for you, my listeners.

Richard Laver Survived a Plane and Life Crash but Found His Purpose

Richard Laver Survived a Plane and Life Crash but Found His Purpose

Richard Laver is the youngest survivor of the Delta 191 flight that killed his father and 136 others. After surviving the crash at just 12 years old, he suffered from depression and was homeless by 27. Laver had a premonition that the plane would crash and broke his tennis rackets to try to get out of going to his tennis competition. But his dad said they were going anyway.

Laver is the Founder and CEO of Lucky Energy Drink and founder of Kate's Farm ( the #1 recommended plant-based tube feeding formula) He eventually found the love of his life, Michelle, but during the premature birth of their first child, Kate, she was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and would need a feeding tube for nourishment. Laver founded Kate Farms to save her life. It is used in hospitals across America to save children from not thriving on previous formulas.

In thinking about his next chapter, Laver landed on creating a cleaner alternative to the energy drinks on the market. The original name Lucky F*ck comes from a bracelet his son gave him, saying that through everything, his father was really a Lucky F*ck.

He launched the company to inspire people to persevere and keep going as he learned to do.

Sara and Richard talk about everything from following our Intuition, to being an entrepreneur, creating from necessity and passion, and most importantly: Never giving up on yourself.

Laver overcame many obstacles, created highly successful companies and a beautiful family. He says he visualized the biggest picture possible, what he saw as his life and effect on the world.

He wants his story to reach all of the people that may be struggling and to know there is a way. Listen to this amazing story and share with anyone you think could use hearing this journey.

INTUITION: TOOLS to GET IT & USE IT with Sara

INTUITION: TOOLS to GET IT & USE IT with Sara

Thanks for all that chimed in and wanted to know more about Intuition from my episode last week with Dr. Sylvia. Our next week’s episode has an element of Intuition in it, too. (with Richard Laver).

So this solo episode elaborates on Intuition, how you amplify it and listen to it? Sometimes it screams at you to listen, but sometimes we silence it. It is such a useful tool.

My question: Would you, if your young son or daughter came to you with an intuitive feeling or dream, would u listen to them and take it seriously? More on that in next week’s episode.

In this episode, Sara talks more about the gut, heart, brain connection. And how connected Intuition and that “gut feeling” is. The heart, brain and gut work in synchronicity. When all are aligned, you will get the “click-in” that makes you “know”.

Do you ever get mad at yourself for not listening? Sara talks about a dream she had that actually predicted the future – it included a move to the San Francisco area, and her marriage blowing up. Which all wound up true. She also recently listened to her gut/intuition while on the mountain and it told her to proceed and ultimately avoided potential avalanches.

We need to listen to the messages and be in tune to get that messaging. It is so important to listen to the internal rather than the external. Listen to you - not others.

Sara reminds us that Complacency will kill. Do not be complacent with your intuition.

Allow yourself to be courageous (Live Boldly!) and allow your gut to speak to you. Here are some ways to help listen and be in the quiet to allow messages to come in:

Be still. Quiet your mind.  This doesn’t mean you have to sit cross-legged on the floor. You can sit or you can move. You can be on the ocean, a nature walk, etc.

Take a Chance on following your gut instinct- take a risk. The more you do this, it will heighten.

Do Daily body scans. Sometimes fear and excitement live in the body and feel the same way. Your Intuition can say is it just my fear speaking? When it really feels like the messages are coming from within your body, then you know it’s intuition.

Spend time outside. It helps quiet us, and also makes us open to listening within.

Do a Technology Fast.  Again, the goal is to Quiet the mind so you can listen. Take away the constant stimulation on your phone and other devices.

Ask your intuition a question. Don’t just ask the brain, because fear can come in.

Journal writing . Or audio. You can talk into voice memos (such as Day One)

The Arts – Art, music, dance, etc. Use your art as a means to foster the story you want to tell. Tap into intuition and bring forth that story.

The more we tap into our Intuition, the stronger it will become. So, tap into it and create the life you love!

Please share this with your friends and watch Sara on YouTube.

You may want to look into last week’s episode with Dr. Sylvia and next week’s episode with Richard Laver.

    Have a great week!

First time listener! ,

Powerfully Positive

I’m not the most earnest person (in all honesty, earnestness always feels a little sus). But Sara is brimming with such genuinely positive energy that I’m totally won over. And she always draws the best insights out of guests!

Live in the 2%

Absolutely loved this episode!!!! Just listened to your podcast with Joan while walking a trail near my house! It’s crazy how the universe works! I’m Joan!!! I’m in HR, scared of heights, I have been living in my controlled bubble, I was fun and adventure ! I want to launch a new business but I’m afraid of letting go. I encourage and want to help others grow but can’t give myself that freedom! Journaling is a struggle for me, trust is really hard and it’s like you are wanting to break me free of everything that is holding me back! The common denominator is that the only thing holding me back is me! I want to learn to live in the 2%!

I didn’t pass out on the TEDx stage

I absolutely adore this episode! All of your episodes are inspiring and encouraging, but the quote I love the most from this episode was (regarding opportunities ) “If they are there for you they are meant for you, If they come into your life it's meant for you to receive”. Just beautiful!!
