151: Parenting with Pride: Love, Support, and Growth for LGBTQIA+ Teens with Heather Hester

In this episode, I speak with Heather Hester, the Founder of Chrysalis Mama, about how she has mothered two LGBTQIA+ teens, how best to support our children, and how to prioritize love.  Heather shares that her journey as a Founder began when her son Connor came out as LGBTQIA+. She then realized she did not have the tools to support him. In learning the importance of expressing unconditional love to her children, she encourages parents to educate themselves, prioritize their child’s mental health, and ensure their child’s school environment is affirming.   She offers practical tips for parents of LGBTQIA+ teens for when they come out and how to provide continued support along their journey. She acknowledges some of the mistakes she made along the way, too. Her journey has involved breaking cycles from her conservative upbringing and learning to trust her inner voice. She reflects on the importance of stepping into who we are meant to be as mothers and the need to break free from societal expectations.   You’ll also hear about:  (03:33) Before and after Heather’s son came out(09:43) Embracing messiness and ending cycles(19:10) Navigating parenting an LGBTQIA+ teen(23:36) Acknowledging and embracing mistakes (36:17) Being honest with our children(38:44) Three practical steps for parents(45:32) The beauty of life’s unfolding(51:26) Stepping into ourselves Don’t miss Heather’s message of empathy, resilience, and unconditional love.  Rate, Review, & Follow on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, or wherever you listen to podcasts!  Resources mentioned in the episode:  Check out Heather’s LGBTQIA+ resources Follow Heather Hester Learn more on Heather’s website Connect with Heather on LinkedIn Follow Heather on Instagram Listen to Heather’s podcast Buy Heather’s book Follow Dr. Gertrude  Learn more on Dr. Gertrude’s website Follow Dr. Gertrude on Instagram Stay in the loop and sign up to Dr. Gertrude’s newsletter

150: Facing Grief and Embracing Joy: Parenthood, Authenticity, and Coming Out with Jamie Engelhardt

In this episode, I speak with Jamie Engelhardt, a brand strategist and mother of three, about solo parenting, breaking generational mother codes, and embracing queerness.  Jamie shares where she’s at on the rollercoaster ride of parenthood, holding many types of tension and opposites at once, and what she sees as some of the most significant generational differences in how she was raised compared to this generation. There’s a lot to learn in recognizing that our children’s childhood isn’t the one we grew up in.  Jamies recalls a healing experience in Mexico where women from her lineage revealed to her in a vision that she is at her most free when mothering herself and her children. We discuss how she is actively rewriting the mother codes in her family and breaking generational cycles. Some of those new codes include expressing love to her children, coming out as queer, and living deeply in her authenticity.    You’ll also hear about:  (03:59) Parenthood is a wild ride (10:35) Generational parenting differences (14:52) Invitation to dance around the fire(19:09) Rewriting generational cycles(28:31) Coming out later in life(42:11) Spending time in the dark(48:54) Living your truth Don’t miss Jamie’s insight on leaving a legacy of strong women! 149: Redefining Darkness: Cultural Wisdom and Feminine Power with Dr. Gertrude Lyons

In this solo episode, Dr. Gertrude walks into the dark. She challenges common fears around the dark, explores the dark wisdom of the feminine, and honors the dark as a season of growth. As the nights grow longer in the Northern Hemisphere, Dr. Gertrude embraces the change in light. She explores how much of the Western world has come to vilify the dark and shroud the unknown as evil. She shares her personal journey with darkness and debunks outdated myths. Across cultures, these seasons are essential for accessing a different part of the self.  Dr. Gertrude emphasizes the importance of balancing light and dark, like yin and yang. The darkness of the womb, ever-present in the feminine, contains potent knowledge for healing and growth. Society's overemphasis on light, or masculine, characteristics has led to imbalances. The perpetual availability of light doesn’t always serve us. Sometimes, the darkness holds the answers.  You’ll also hear about:  (00:40) Facing the dark(02:35) Significance across cultures (06:55) Vilifying the dark(09:44) Waking up to the dark(13:40) The dark feminine(19:12) Upcoming course  Ready to awaken your dark feminine side? 145: Trusting Intuition: Navigating Motherhood, Medical Decisions, and Personal Growth with Elizabeth Tuazon

In this episode, I welcome back Elizabeth Tuazon. We discuss her current stage of motherhood, how the universe always wants us to succeed, and her family’s upcoming transitions.  With Elizabeth Tuazon’s daughter, Lyla Rose, now a year and one-month-old, I checked in with her for a motherhood update. Elizabeth shares how she celebrated her one-year anniversary of giving birth with a Montessori Walk Around the Sun. It was a beautiful time to reflect on the milestones and growth she and her family made in the last year.  We then dive into the lessons learned by exercising our free will to make choices and question things, even things accepted as normal or standard, like what a pregnant woman is allowed to eat or why babies are required to have their iron tested. Elizabeth has two significant transitions ahead: an au pair and a doctoral program. Elizabeth’s willingness, grace, and curiosity with which she accepts newness and every step of motherhood never fails to amaze me.  You’ll also hear about:  (02:50) Motherhood update(08:15) Anniversary of giving birth(19:50) The lessons in choice(30:46) Preparing for an au pair(35:54) Beginning a doctoral program Lyla Rose joins us briefly in the end, stay tuned!
