Robin Wigglesworth, author of Trillions: How a Band of Wall Street Renegades Invented the Index Fund and Changed Finance Forever

Robin Wigglesworth, author of Trillions: How a Band of Wall Street Renegades Invented the Index Fund and Changed Finance Forever

Robin Wigglesworth has done the impossible...he's written a book about index funds that, once you get started, you won't be able to put down. The index fund product itself may not be compelling, but the characters that Wigglesworth describes certainly are. He traces the growth of index funds and how they moved from a concept developed by academics to how they became the leading investment choice for mutual fund investors. Enjoy!

John Rekenthaler on how mutual fund investing has changed in past three decades

John Rekenthaler on how mutual fund investing has changed in past three decades

With more than three decades at Morningstar, John Rekenthaler has had a front row seat to the tectonic shifts in the mutual fund business. During his career, John has seen the industry go from one dominated by actively managed funds (e.g., Fidelity's Magellan fund) to one where index funds (e.g., Vanguard Total Stock Market Fund) now hold more than 50% of fund assets. We reminisce about John's early days of Morningstar where one could leaf through binders with information on hundreds of funds (yes, I relied on these reports for my earliest investments in mutual funds). Please be sure to check out John's thought pieces in his Morningstar column after listening to the podcast. Enjoy!

NGPF Podcast: Patrick Geddes on his entrepreneurial journey and his forthcoming book, Transparent Investing

NGPF Podcast: Patrick Geddes on his entrepreneurial journey and his forthcoming book, Transparent Investing

I met today's guest, Patrick Geddes, almost a decade ago when I was "kicking the tires" at Aperio, the investment management he co-founded. He was kind enough to sit down with me for more than an hour explain the "Aperio approach" to investing and I've been a happy client since. Today, you get the benefit of Patrick's wisdom gleaned from his decades of taking a research-based approach to investing. In this podcast, we explore his entrepreneurial journey from start-up to being acquired by BlackRock for $1.05 billion. As you listen, what will become clear is how energized Patrick is for this next chapter of his career. He will be bringing his passion and commitment to improving investor education.
We will discuss his forthcoming book, Transparent Investing, which may be available to teachers in the NGPF community in December (logistics still being worked out). Patrick will also be appearing at an NGPF Speaker Series event on January 20, 2022 and the general release of his book will be on January 25, 2022. Enjoy!

The absolute best in promoting financial literacy

There are so many people that talk about how much we need personal finance in our schools...well, this guy is doing something about it! Providing tools and education for teachers so they can teach the students. Awesome podcast and guests to go along with their mission.

PS...I absolutely LOVED hearing from the kids! They will be far ahead of their peers because of the financial education they received early on. Best of luck to them!
