r. Felice Gersh is a double board-certified, ground-breaking thought leader in the field of PCOS. She returns to the PCOS Diva podcast to discuss taking control of your lifestyle before you enter Menopause.
In general, women with PCOS need to be extra vigilant during the peri-menopause and menopause years because we have more insulin resistance, gut issues, and inflammation. If these issues are left unmanaged, during menopause they can contribute to heightened hot flashes, mood swings, sleep problems, and weight gain.
There is hope! Dr. Gersh assures us that Menopause does not have to be all gloom and doom. She shows us how to take control of our health now so we can breeze through Menopause.
Listen in and learn:
- 3 stages of menopause and what to expect if you have PCOS
- Why PCOS-delayed Menopause is a myth
- How to take control now - Tips and best practices to start implementing at all stages of life (and before you hit Menopause)
- Hot flash treatments
- Why a hysterectomy is not the solution
179- The Inflammatory Effects of Toxic Seed & Vegetable Oils
In today’s podcast, I talk with Dr. K and Ashley, founders of the Seed Oil Rebellion.
They are on a mission to help spread awareness of seed oils, their effects on our health, and how to live a seed oil-free life.
Seed oils, also known as vegetable oils or industrial seed oils, are highly processed oils extracted from seeds such as soybeans, corn, rapeseed, cottonseed, sunflower, and safflower seeds.
After the seeds are harvested, they are then heated to extremely high temperatures that oxidize the fatty acids creating byproducts that are harmful to our health. Due to the high amounts of omega-6 fatty acids found in these oils, not only do they become inflammatory compounds in the pan but in your body as well. They play a significant role in chronic inflammatory diseases and a large variety of other skin, gut, and weight issues to name a few.
While they may not be present in your home as cooking oils, the truth of the matter is they are in just about everything. Most packaged foods, from tortilla chips to coffee creamer, and just about every restaurant.
The Evil Eight, as we call them, are canola, corn, cottonseed (or rapeseed), soybean, sunflower, safflower, grapeseed, and rice bran. These are the absolute worst oils and should always be avoided as best as possible.
The Simple Six, which we consider the healthiest oils are ghee (clarified butter), beef tallow, butter, coconut, avocado, and olive oil. Use these to cook with and look for store-bought options including these too!
Our conversation is one you don’t want to miss - get ready to have your mind blown!
I just listened to the podcast with Dr. Campbell about histamine intolerance. It was so informative and very helpful!
This Podcast has Changed My Life
Amy, I do not even know how to begin to express my gratitude. Listening to the information, resources, and experts you have interviewed has given me a wealth of knowledge and empowered me to take control of my own health and fertility.
A bit of back story: I was put on the pill at 12 to control irregular, heavy bleeding. Was diagnosed with PCOS at 27 and went through several rounds of fertility treatments before conceiving our darling twin girls. At 29 I asked my OBGYN if there was an alternative to taking birth control to help control my PCOS symptoms and he said well if you want to have more children one day, it’s too early to have a hysterectomy. Just take the BC and we’ll trying another IUI if you want more children down the road…because I have lean PCOS, I found it more difficult for me to access helpful advice for my specific body. Then one magical day I found your podcast! I became a ravenous listener. I implemented changes that felt good for my body like going off the pill, doing more resistance training and less cardio, eating a lower GI diet, incorporating inositol supplements, and ate more fats. I also purchased the OvuSense monitor after hearing about it on your show so I could literally see the impacts these changes were having on my body.
I feel amazing! I feel like MYSELF! And last month, I found out I was pregnant. I know there’s changes will help me manage this life-long condition. My family and I are so grateful to you. I will continue to share and support this podcast! Thank you.
