    2. Redefining Life by Reframing Unimaginable Grief with Megan Pizzaro

    2. Redefining Life by Reframing Unimaginable Grief with Megan Pizzaro

“Grief is so much wider and deeper than we thought. I think that in general there needs to be more acknowledgment and acceptance of grief so that people don't have to be on this treadmill just getting through life and bypassing all of these things that are hard by bucking up and doing it. That’s not healthy for anybody.”
In today’s episode, Erin speaks with good friend Megan Pizarro - woman, wife, mother, widow, and lover of life, literature, and energy.
    In this episode, we discuss:
Evolving from young pregnant newlywed to caregiver of both a new baby and ailing husbandLosing her husband to leukemia and becoming a widow and single mother at 25Finding the strength to open her heart to love again while navigating an ever-evolving journey through grief, only to lose a baby girl at 9 months old.Struggling with her body keeping the score of her grief via painful illnessManaging her eldest son’s grief & trauma continually expressed in behavioral strugglesLearning how trauma and anxiety can mimic personality disorders Discovering her eldest son’s neurodivergence, ADHD + Anxiety, and ODDHow having an idyllic sheltered upbringing left her without the tools necessary to face adversityGrieving the motherhood experience you thought you'd have and the childhood you wished for your children.Embracing the multi-layered stages of the grief process and using it to pull yourself out of the pain
While Megan and I discuss a lot, my favorite takeaway from our conversation is her ability to always meet grief where it’s at in such a calm, accepting manner. To be able to guide others through their grieving journey and navigate how it looks different for each of us was her gift to me. Megan has been through so much, yet continues to show up for herself, her son, and her family against all odds, thanks to the tools she’s gained through such unimaginable circumstances.

    1. The Power & Pleasure in Being a Woman with Dadli

    1. The Power & Pleasure in Being a Woman with Dadli

“I never want my daughters to feel their ceiling of achievement is beneath a man.”

On the premiere episode of Raising Ourselves, Erin chats with good friend, Dadli - woman, wife, mother, entrepreneur, and liberator of orgasms. Dadli's life is a testimate to the everyday ability to "Advance Despite Adversity" and while this episode is a long one, I chose not to split it as the conversation was too good to break up.

    In this episode, we discuss:
Fleeing an oppressive regime as a child during the Iranian Revolution of the early 80sNavigating life as a refugee and growing up within a culture clash of the Western worldThe loss of her father and being raised by a widowed mother while living in the shadow of her brotherRaising daughters who embrace and appreciate the beauty of their Persian heritage while denouncing the patriarchal oppression and atrocities of Iran’s current leadership that have now sparked a second revolutionUnabashedly standing firm in awareness of her worth and abilities in utilizing the tools she’s learned in motherhood to climb the corporate ladder with freedom in her workplaceHer wish for women to embrace their femininity, sexual liberation, and ownership of pleasure
We touch on A LOT, but my favorite takeaway from my conversation with Dadli is the gift of her wisdom gained by standing within the liberation and empowerment of self-love, intimacy, and the power of owning being a woman in a male-dominated world.

"Treat people as if they were what they should be, and you help them become what they are capable of becoming." - Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
