Real Food Radio Episode 037: What Every Woman Needs to Know About Hormonal Birth Control

Real Food Radio Episode 037: What Every Woman Needs to Know About Hormonal Birth Control

Today's episode is all about hormonal birth control. Based on our experiences as both patients in the healthcare system and as practitioners, we've found that women are not being given full or accurate information about the risks of hormonal birth control use. Listen to this episode, get informed, and talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. In this episode, we go over:
How hormonal birth control works Natural period vs. withdrawal bleed Common myths about hormonal birth control Potential consequences and risk factors of long term hormonal birth control use How hormonal birth control impacts reproductive organs Hormonal birth control and gut health Nutrition implications of being on hormonal birth control RESOURCES
What Every Woman Should Know About Hormonal Birth Control by Ayla Barmmer of Boston Functional Nutrition (blog)
    Sweetening the Pill (blog)
Lara Briden - The Period Revolution (blog)
Period Repair Manual by Lara Briden (book)
We just wanted to take a moment to emphasize a super important point. First and foremost, if you have any concerns, you should take them to your doctor. We are not trying to suggest what you should or shouldn't do with your body or whether hormonal birth control is the right option for you or not. This is something only you and your doctor can determine. The purpose of this episode is to educate you about the potential risks of hormonal birth control and to shed light on some considerations that are sometimes overlooked. Again, if you have any concerns, feel free to use this episode and the provided resources to get informed and formulate questions for your doctor.
