Maia (Broey Deschanel) and Hannah are wonderful to listen to - nuanced, candid, and respectful of their pop culture subjects. I appreciate their openness to learning and sharing, and their topics are always fun and relevant.
white woman tone policing?
Sep 6
Idk … a lot of your episodes come across as passive aggressive tone policing of Black and marginalized groups on twitter. A lot of the trends you discuss do originate from Black twitter as you note. You’re aware enough to throw in the necessary qualifiers and caveats. “To be sure … Lady A is racist and abuses the staff ….. but don’t you think everyone’s being a little too~ mean? Haven’t we gone too far?🥺” The “too far” argument is always mobilized exclusively for the defense of privileged white women tho. And for them alone. You know not to point the finger directly at Black people and accuse them of bullying the poor white women, so you point the finger at The Internet instead to launder your grievances. But it also feels like you would prefer if Black twitter would shut up and stop coining new phrases that will inevitably get co-opted by the right wing.
