My favorite podcast

Every episode is a gem. I’m always excited to see a new episode on my feed. I have listened to each episode at least 3 times. Always my go-to. Whatever direction the podcast takes in the future, I’m thrilled to support it. Thank you, Reply All team!

I don’t recognize this show anymore.

I used to love this show. Now, it has lost it’s substance, it’s relevance. I don’t feel connected to the stories or the hosts anymore. I was going to give this last episode a listen, but at the very beginning I heard an advertisement for parents wanting to talk to their kids about joining the military. The advertisement seemed to be supportive of the idea that the military is a worthy endeavor. It is not and I refuse to listen to a show helping to beat the drums for the next U.S. occupation for resource extraction. Nothing is safe from the reach of this unfettered, cannibalistic capitalist system we find ourselves in, not even Reply All. Sad days.

Fell off a cliff

Reply All has been my favorite podcast since it launched, so my 1-star review here isn’t fair. It’s a cry for help to the Reply All team. I don’t know if you’ll read this, but I hope someone does.

Your latest episode, #180, was the worst podcast episode I have ever heard produced. By anyone. Boring, unfocused, and uncritical—just Adam giggling with some teens blathering about an accidental non-event event.

It could have been a fascinating exploration of how social connection has continued to change under the effects of the pandemic and technology. It could have addressed hollow values and weak ties and examined what this could mean for the next generation’s future. Or the replacement of intimacy with commercialization in friendship. Or the industry of social media influencers and their need to react to an ever-more arbitrary and capricious audience.

But no. Huge missed opportunity, lazy reporting, and incredibly frustrating to listen to. If I didn’t love Reply All’s history of incredible audio so much, I would’ve unfollowed just based on the shlock of that last episode.

I believe in you guys and I don’t have a better way of sharing by-episode feedback. I hope this was just a rare miss. I will remain a fan, but I do hope you find your feet in this dizzying period of reinvention for the show.
