It’s a shame.

I never bother to write these, but I was so invested in this show that I feel compelled to share my thoughts. I echo the sentiments of other reviewers who mourn the loss of PJ. While I understand the desire to appear progressive and diverse (an endeavor which I support whole-heartedly), Gimlet has taken this concept to such an extreme that it seems like a prank. I feel like at any moment PJ is going to jump back on and shout “Remember that extreme overreaction in an attempt to appeal to loud, vocal liberal snowflakes? Just kidding!” So far, that reveal hasn’t come. Also, shoehorning in stories that beg for forgiveness while only marginally touching on the concept of technology is just embarrassing to witness. I truly feel for those who were hurt by some of the decisions and actions of the past, but this podcast in its current state will merely serve as a time capsule of overactive cancel culture. Now let’s hear a story about THAT.

Lost sight of their purpose

I’m a pretty progressive person, and I understand what they are trying to do, but this show has lost sight of why it has so many fans. The topics lately have been way too heavy and are only slightly related to tech. We’re living through the pandemic. I don’t want to listen to you keep talking about it and anxiety. I used to come to this show for the funny banter, funny stories, and yes yes no. Mental health is a big issue that needs to be addressed, but I don’t think that it needs to be every episode. I have faith that they will find their lane again, but I hope it’s soon because I can’t even make it through a full episode anymore and I used to binge this show.
