💬 "I haven't been as creative because my table for creativity is covered in stuff that I need to deal with. That would probably take me 10 minutes to deal with. Maybe I'll do that after this episode.  Wish me luck! If in the next episode, that table is clean. I want you to leave me a comment and say, good job. Cause I need that... to live, okay? Thank you. We now have a social contract. Praise me if I clean that desk. Thank you!”

💬 "There's operations happening in our brain, and standards  of what a workspace should look like and function like. So that's part one, is identify those standards and assumptions. And then, step two of creating your neurodivergent, friendly, creative workspace is what are your patterns and habits?”

💬  “You will not be creative as much as you want if you're holding yourself to a standard that is very hard to achieve.”

💬  “Anything that is going to like distract you out of having the enjoyable experience you want because of a bad sensory input, go make accommodations for yourself.”

How to Eliminate Guilt & Shame in Your Creativity | #123

How to Eliminate Guilt & Shame in Your Creativity | #123

Welcome, Sunshine, to our first April episode! Did you know that April isn't just about blooming flowers and fresh starts? It's my birthday month AND also Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month, a time to embrace diversity and understanding. (yay, #celebrate)

Today, our spotlight shines on a familiar struggle: the sneaky duo of guilt and shame that can creep into our creative adventures. But fear not! We're here to lighten the load and help you navigate these choppy waters.

Why do these pesky emotions tag along with our creativity? And more importantly, how can we kick them to the curb and let our creative spirits soar? Whether it's fear of the blank canvas or hesitation to put pen to paper, we've got you! Guilt and shame have no power here.

    Key Points:

Understanding Guilt vs. Shame: Caitlin differentiates guilt (a response to actions) from shame (an encompassing sense of being ‘bad’) and their impact on creativity.

The Need for Creativity: Discover why creativity should be viewed as a fundamental need, akin to spirituality or community, rather than a luxury or afterthought.

Combat Shame with Self-Acceptance: Learn how shifting your perspective from proving yourself through art to creating for the sake of beauty can dissolve shame.

External Expectations vs. Self-Judgement: Caitlin encourages listeners to dissect whether their self-criticism stems from their own beliefs or the imposed beliefs of others.

    You Will Learn:

The significance of adapting programs to better serve the neurodivergent community.

The benefits of small cohort sizes in fostering meaningful critique and support within a workshop setting.

The entrepreneurial mindset of embracing change and growth for the betterment of all involved.

I could tell the story I want to tell. I can write something that is so true to myself that it won't matter if people don't like the book because I know that like fundamentally, I wouldn't even want to be their friend.”

💬  “For every one-star review, for people who just like don't get me and the book was never going to resonate with, there are probably 3 to 5 five-star reviews telling me that they were like crying by page 10, because they had never felt so witnessed and seen.”

💬 “The core of any story that you tell, any book that you write, any play that you act in, like anything… the core of that has to be true to you in order for it to resonate with the right readers.”

Highly recommend to all my fellow ND/chronically people

If you’re someone who feels the push and pull of what you know actually works and feels good for you and what the world says should work and feel good for you, I highly recommend pressing play whenever your internal monologue needs some backup. It’s a lovely little antidote to the ableism we’re all bombarded with day in and day out.

We don’t hustle in this family!

Yes, I’m leaving a review for my own podcast. It’s my glorious love letter to creators — a reminder that your gifts and talents are not accidents, that you do not need to achieve perfection, and that you deserve to put your passions on your schedule for real. Love you!!

Defeater-99 ,

Dangerous misinformation

First off, I’m a former fat person. The information in this podcast is not in line with modern science. Yes, there are certain social and psychological factors that contribute to the stigmatization and shame of being overweight. Not acknowledging even a single negative health outcome resulting from obesity is disingenuous and unproductive to actually raising awareness of what it means to be healthy.
