If you have hyperthyroidism (Graves' disease, toxic multinodular goiter, etc.) or Hashimoto's thyroiditis and are looking to do everything to save your thyroid gland, then the Save My Thyroid podcast is for you! Dr. Eric Osansky DC, IFMCP is the host, as he personally was diagnosed with Graves' disease in 2008 and was able to get into remission taking a natural approach. He created this podcast to help others with hyperthyroidism and Hashimoto's save their thyroid and regain their health. If you have hyperthyroidism then pretty much all of the episodes will benefit you, and if you have Hashimoto's you'll benefit from most of the guest expert episodes, as well as some of the "solo" episodes. The reason there is more of a focus on hyperthyroidism is because all of the other thyroid-related podcasts focus mostly on hypothyroidism/Hashimoto's, and since Dr. Eric personally dealt with Graves' disease he wanted this podcast to focus more on hyperthyroidism, although it will still offer plenty of value to those with hypothyroidism/Hashimoto's. Dr. Eric Osansky lives in Matthews NC with his wife, 2 daughters, 3 cats, 2 dogs, and 3 guinea pigs! He has been a practitioner for 20+ years, and has focused on helping people with thyroid and autoimmune thyroid conditions since 2009.

Should those with Graves' disease and Hashimoto's take LDN?

Should those with Graves' disease and Hashimoto's take LDN?

Naltrexone is an FDA-approved medication that was first approved to help heroin and opium addicts by blocking opioid receptors.

Later, researchers found that lower doses of naltrexone could modulate the immune system and benefit many people with different types of autoimmune and other chronic conditions.

With its immune system modulation properties, low-dose naltrexone (LDN) has the potential to benefit those with Graves’ disease and Hashimoto's; however, it doesn’t come without risks.

Today, I’m sharing the key considerations you need to take into account when considering whether LDN might be right for you.

In this episode, you’ll learn about:
    - Benefits of LDN, especially in comparison to other medications
    - Specific aspects of LDN to be aware of if you have Graves' disease or Hashimoto's
    - Risks associated with LDN
    - Recognizing the need to address the underlying causes of your condition
    - My perspective on whether people with Graves' disease or Hashimoto's should consider taking LDN
    - The importance of making an informed decision about taking LDN

Deep Dive into Nutrition and Thyroid Health with Megan Lyons

Deep Dive into Nutrition and Thyroid Health with Megan Lyons

“Nutrition and health in general are only successful when they’re sustainable.” - Megan Lyons

When it comes to nutrition and thyroid health, it’s essential to build a strong foundation that nourishes the body. That means including the various antioxidants, polyphenols, and other good chemicals from plants alongside high-quality, healthy fats essential for hormone production.

Beyond the basics, your mindset is a powerful factor in nutrition and healing. Rather than thinking about your diet as something restrictive or that your body is working against you, try to reframe it as being empowered with the knowledge that helps you feel your best. Listen to how you speak to yourself and try to be kind to your body.

Today, I’m joined by Megan Lyons, a sought-after health & wellness expert who is deeply passionate about inspiring others to feel their healthiest and happiest. Megan is a Harvard graduate, MBA, and former management consultant who left the business world to follow her passion for wellness by opening The Lyons' Share Wellness in 2014.

In this conversation, Megan and I discuss the relationship between nutrition and thyroid health, the benefits of antioxidants, healthy fats, and proteins, concerns about goitrogens in cruciferous vegetables, phytoestrogens in soy, whether a gluten-free diet is necessary for thyroid patients, the impact of oxalates, Megan’s perspective on natural sweeteners, and more. Enjoy the episode!

Is melatonin harmful in those with Graves' disease and Hashimoto's?

Is melatonin harmful in those with Graves' disease and Hashimoto's?

Many people are familiar with the benefits of melatonin when it comes to sleep. However, research shows that the hormone may have much more to offer.

While its primary function is to help regulate the body’s circadian rhythm, research has shown other benefits, such as strengthening the immune system, improving bone density, potentially helping to prevent the development of certain types of cancers, and benefiting those with autoimmune conditions.

Today, I’m sharing the critical insights anyone with Graves' disease or Hashimoto's needs to know about melatonin, including how it impacts thyroid health and what recent research says, particularly about those with autoimmune thyroid conditions.

    In this episode, you’ll learn:
    - Melatonin’s role in regulating the body’s circadian rhythm
    - How melatonin impacts multiple aspects of your overall health
    - Potential causes of low melatonin levels
    - Precursors of melatonin
    - Testing for melatonin deficiency
    - The connection between melatonin and thyroid hormone production
    - Potential benefits of melatonin for people with autoimmune conditions
    - What recent journal articles show about the effects of melatonin on immune function
    - My recommendations for melatonin for those with thyroid conditions

Holistic Fertility Tips with Dr. Aumatma Simmons

Holistic Fertility Tips with Dr. Aumatma Simmons

Fertility issues are on the rise. The latest numbers are showing 1 in 5 to 6 women between 18 and 35 struggling with fertility and sperm health on a steady decline. Several factors are driving this change, from increased exposure to environmental toxins to chronic stress levels that are at an all-time high. When our bodies are under stress, they shift into survival mode and that’s a tough place to conceive from.

For those of us with thyroid issues, there’s another layer to consider - the thyroid has a direct correlation with your fertility. Thyroid imbalances can cause many issues, from getting pregnant to having difficulty sustaining a pregnancy, even for those who may not have a problem with conceiving.

Every couple is unique and a holistic approach to fertility requires an individualized approach. Today’s guest, naturopathic doctor and endocrinologist Dr. Aumatma Simmons joins me to share her insights into holistic fertility from over ten years of specialization.

In this conversation, Dr. Aumatma and I discuss her journey into fertility specialization, the complex factors affecting fertility, why comprehensive testing is essential, why both partners must be a part of the fertility preparation process, advanced testing methods she recommends, how thyroid imbalances impact fertility, management of thyroid conditions during pregnancy, and more. Enjoy the episode!

How much protein should be consumed by those with hyperthyroidism and Hashimoto's?

Adequate protein intake is a key nutritional factor in preventing loss of muscle mass and strength, frailty, and associated comorbidities in later life. In addition, research shows that a deficiency of dietary protein can impair immune function and increase susceptibility to infectious diseases.

Today, I’m sharing why adequate protein intake should be a critical component of your thyroid healing journey, how to know the right amount of protein to consume, and specific considerations for people with hyperthyroidism or Hashimoto’s.

    In this episode, you’ll learn:
    - How protein helps with muscle mass, strength, and preventing sarcopenia
    - The relevance of protein for those with autoimmune conditions
    - Determining your recommended daily protein intake
    - Whether you should be concerned about excess protein and your kidney health
    - The potential need for increased protein intake with hypothyroidism

PMS, Low Libido, and Orgasms with Dr. Jolene Brighten

PMS, Low Libido, and Orgasms with Dr. Jolene Brighten

Everybody’s normal is different, and just because something is common doesn’t mean it’s normal.

As health practitioners, people often ask us whether what they’re experiencing is normal. Without an understanding of your body and what is normal for you, it’s easy to be misled by all the misinformation out there, especially when it comes to women’s bodies. So, where do you go to find the tools to empower yourself?

Most states in the United States do not teach medically accurate sex education. Outside of the school system, people turn to social media and the stories and experiences of family and friends. None of these routes tend to give you the insight you need into your specific body and health needs and leave most people in a place of uncertainty.

That’s why today’s guest, Dr. Jolene Brighten, was inspired to write her book, “Is This Normal?” a non-judgmental guide to creating hormone balance, eliminating unwanted symptoms, and building the sexual desire you crave. Dr. Jolene is a hormone expert, nutrition scientist, and thought leader in women’s medicine. She is board certified in naturopathic endocrinology and trained in clinical sexology. A fierce patient advocate and completely dedicated to uncovering the root cause of hormonal imbalances, Dr. Jolene empowers women worldwide to take control of their health and hormones through her website and social medical channels. Dr. Jolene is also an international speaker, clinical educator, and medical advisor within the tech community.

In this conversation, Dr. Jolene and I discuss why it’s crucial to understand what’s normal for your menstrual cycle, how thyroid health impacts your fertility and sexual desire, myths about low libido and aging, the role of the vaginal microbiome, her flexible 28-day plan, and more. Enjoy the episode!

You gave me hope!

Thank you, Dr. Eric!

When I was diagnosed with Graves in 2018, you were one of the first (and by far, the best) resources I found, and you gave me hope! I immediately altered my diet and within a year, I was off meds and in remission.

I remain in remission today and continue to be vigilant about my lifestyle and diet.

In a word with so few valuable resources regarding hyperthyroidism and Graves, you’re testimony and information is priceless!

I was recently diagnosed with Hashimoto’s. I had zero knowledge about this condition. After following Dr. Eric Osansky for a short time, I learned so much. Dr. Osansky is a living encyclopedia on Hyperthyroidism and Hypothyroidism. He is very generous in sharing his knowledge and educating patients about this disease. He is very passionate in helping patients and saving their thyroid. I am so grateful to have found Dr. Osansky! I also love his bootcamps and live Zoom calls. - Seema Singh

This podcast gave me hope!

I binge listened to Dr. Eric’s podcasts after being diagnosed by my primary care physician with Graves’ disease in 2022. His first solution was radiation to destroy my thyroid and his second solution was medication. I knew I didn’t want rather of these choices but I didn’t know where to go to find the information I needed. After a brief search I came across Dr. Eric’s podcasts. The information was incredibly valuable to me and I was able to make an informed decision about natural treatment options even after being told over and over again by my PCP that there was no natural treatment for Graves. I am beyond grateful that my T4,T3, and TSH levels are now all in normal range! I am so thankful for this free information that gave me hope and the determination to get my Graves into remission! Thank you! Thank you!
