The Emotional Game of Hypocrisy
Toxic family members will continue to stoke the patterns of emotional abuse and manipulative games through the use of hypocrisy.
In this episode, we will unpack:
✅ psychologically abusive family members are quick to tell you how you should act and what you did wrong, only to turn around and do the very things they just got mad at you for doing.
✅ When the same rules don’t apply to your family members that they apply to you, you are always left guessing as to what is next.
✅ Your family members thrive on having the power to make up rules as they go along, allowing them to gloat in the satisfaction of catching you breaking them.
✅ Your emotionally abusive family members absolutely know right from wrong – they love seeing how easy it is to make you believe you have an open goal to confront them, which is exactly what they want.
✅ Your attempts to make your family members “see the light” will inevitably fall short since they feel no need to listen, accommodate you, or work within your reasonable and fair parameters.
✅ Underlying reasons your toxic family members use the various methods of hypocritical emotional abuse.
✅ Impacts of hypocritical emotional abuse on the victim

The Emotional Game of Psychological Pressure/Forcing
Our toxic family members have the sole intention in all of their relationships to get their way. To accomplish this, they deploy the emotional tactic of psychological pressure/forcing.
Let’s unpack this:
✅ Our emotionally abusive family members have one sole intention in all of their relationships. To get their way.
✅ These family members have no shame in doing whatever it is they need to force you into doing what they want.
✅ Psychological pressure is added to win the game…. winning looks like you succumbing to their pressure.
✅ To get you to break down and go against your best interest, your family will distort the truth through disinformation, oversimplifying, ridiculing and sowing doubt.
✅ Various tactics of pressuring/forcing.
✅ Negative impacts on the victim.

The Emotional Game of Toxic Generosity/Altruism
Not all generosity/altruism is necessarily good, especially when coming from a toxic family member.
In this episode, we are going to talk about the emotional game of “Toxic Giving” that toxic family members play.
✅ Most of you have that one family member who always presented as if they were happy to help you out of a jam, but who always did so with strings attached.
✅ These family members view themselves as having special “abilities” or “gifts” and expect you and all others to react to them as though they are the most caring, generous, people you know.
✅ Toxic givers have the audacity to view your openly accepting what they give as you taking advantage of them, yet when/if you refuse their gifts, they call you heartless.
✅ The emotional game of Toxic Giving/Generosity is built on dishonesty, hypocrisy and misrepresentation because these family members actually resent the same people they serve, and this includes you!
✅ Ironically, the closer you are to these family members, the more resentful they feel when giving or doing anything for you.

The Emotional Game of Deny, Minimize, Justify and Blame
Next up in our series on emotional games our toxic family members play is the game of Denying- Minimizing-Justifying-Blaming.
✅ This emotional game is used to force you to give up your rightful position in any unfair circumstance your family has set against you.
✅ Negative Impacts of Denial.
✅ Misassumptions to avoid regarding the “denying behavior” of your family members
✅ To deny-minimize-justify-blame creates a relationship that will never become loving, caring, or healthy— the kind of relationship you are hoping for and deserve to have.
✅ Your family members who manipulate in these ways have zero regard for the ways they hurt you or for how this type of abuse negatively impacts their relationship with you.

Stonewalling
AH HA moments .. stonewallers want to dodge connection; used to minimize my feelings; there will be resolution; it is used as a defense against from having to take responsibility!! There is no intention to repair anything. It has taken decades to internalize I will never get closure and to stop going to the stone wall.
Thank you Dr. Sherrie for letting me know I am not alone.

So helpful and validating
Love this podcast! Extremely validating.
I would love it if there were more scenarios given, examples, or hypothetical situations. It would help me understand how this plays out in real life.
I would love to hear more stories as well from real people.
Would love examples of things to say and how to respond.
