Informative, Innovative, and Fun

Dr. Bell and Dr. DeVine do impressive work and a wonderful job on this podcast. I always enjoy listening and learning about a new topic they produce related to addiction medicine. Love the wide array of expert guests they get on the show, the interesting topics they cover, the humor and fun along the way, and the applicability of topics to the clinical environment. Great job and I highly recommend for students and healthcare workers from any and all specialties who inevitably care for people with addiction. 5 Stars!

Astonished and Terrified

Intermittently, frenetic and, frankly, annoying mashup of Wikipedia and errowid, required weekend certification without the PowerPoints, and morning FM talk show - an assessment that, being of a purely aesthetic nature and easily remedied by simply not listening, i deemed hardly worthy of a review. UNTIL I inadvertently noticed the episode discussing stigma. It is already terrifying that people willing to perpetuate such precarious and outdated information relating to addiction are allowed to consult on and treat addiction - especially in environments, such as corrections, where patients have no meaningful alternative - but to think such individuals actually believe they are beneficial serving the interests of individuals who live with addiction, is just plain astonishing, and reveals a rather alarming case of not knowing what one doesn’t know. Lastly, if there is an opposite of addiction, it is not being addicted. To suggest “connection” is an opposite - and I do recognize it is likely that the individuals producing this podcast were not being literal in that, but none the less - implies that all who deal with addiction are isolated in some way. Many are not, and such a suggestion seriously runs the risk of further perpetuating a stigmatizing stereotype…it also runs the risk of excluding from the discussion of addiction, or even worse from its treatment, a sizable group of the addicted - namely connected people. Hence the review.
