Depression and suicide run in his family. He’s thought about killing himself more times than he can count. He’s come close enough to dying by suicide that he can tell you what the barrel of his gun tastes like…

He uses his life lessons to start the conversation giving people permission to give voice to their feelings and experiences.

He believes that where there is humor there is hope, where there is laughter there is life, nobody dies laughing.

Dr. Lastra is a bilingual, board-certified Pediatrician with years of experience in both the clinic and hospital setting. She has worked in a number of diverse environments, going from rural communities with limited resources, to Indian reservations with strong moral values, to vibrant cities with prestigious facilities and top of the line medical resources.

Dr. Lastra completed her undergraduate education at the University of South Florida graduating magna cum laude with honors. She majored in chemistry with a minor in biomedical physics. Dr. Lastra then worked as an academic researcher studying the effects of different chemicals on fetal heart development. Shortly after, she completed a masters degree with a focus on interdisciplinary medical sciences.

Dr. Lastra graduated with MD designation (Medical Degree) from Ponce Health Sciences University School of Medicine and completed her pediatric specialty training at the University of South Florida College of Medicine. Dr. Lastra is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.

Dr. Lastra’s ability to communicate in both English and Spanish along with her vast expertise and cultural diversity, allow her to better serve our community.
