The Do’s and Don’t of Injectables on Dr. Jeffrey Roth’s Looking Good Feeling Great Podcast EP05 – S04

It’s important to have a medical check before using injectables such as Botox and/or fillers. As with any procedure you need to make sure you’re healthy enough for this type of intervention.

Dr Roth is always checking for what is termed “The Big 3” infection and anaesthesia complications – they’re: bleeding, such as bruising which can be precipitated by some medications, as well as some non-medical substances such as fish oil or St. Johns Warts. Many cultures have a tradition of taking certain herbal based medicine from their practitioner, this can clash with modern injectables.

Dr Roth also will check with the patient if they have used or are using a dental block, also known as a regional anaesthesia or a nerve blocker which is to numb the alveolar nerve.
Finally, infections. It’s always important to talk with the patient asking about their skin. Making a visual check and asking if they may have had any recent skin infections.

Often people ask if they can get infections from either Botox or other approved fillers – this is very rare. In over 25 years of medical practice, Dr Roth has only ever seen two patients with a slight reddening of the skin around the injection point and with a short course of antibiotics they have been fine, and have reported no discomfort or post-injection problems.

There is a Botox cosmetic and a Botox therapeutic, more for headaches and a group of muscles to help with muscle spasms. Dr Roth does the Botox cosmetic injectables himself at his plastic surgery in Las Vegas. It takes about four days for the Botox and Dysport to work.

Dr Roth talks about what he terms as the “No-Fly Zone” an area of the face in which you don’t inject any filler because there is a muscle there called the “Lavida val pee brain” which is an essential muscle to open your eyelid.

Botox typically lasts about four months, although people that are facially expressive, it may not last as long.

Fillers, like Botox can be dangerous if applied into a vessel and or an artery you can get problems such as to the eye which could cause blindness. Therefore, it’s important to use a certified professional with previous medical experience. Dr Roth acknowledges, if he cannot do something he refers it to the trained expert that can.

Some fillers can last up to two years. But big molecule fillers aren’t always best around superficial areas as you get an effect known as the “Tyndall effect” which creates a greyish or blueish look under the skin.

Ultimately, looking after your skin from a young age is the best option and when you go out in the sun for any extended period wear great sunscreen such as the sunscreen product that took Dr Roth 17 years to perfect. You can go to his website to order it directly, and interestingly the product has a really easy name to remember -“Really Great Sunscreen”!

Las Vegas & Plastic Surgery on Dr Jeffrey Roth’s Looking Good Feeling Great Podcast EP04 - S04

Las Vegas & Plastic Surgery on Dr Jeffrey Roth’s Looking Good Feeling Great Podcast EP04 - S04

Las Vegas is one of the top 5 places in the united states for plastic surgery, and generated by the tracking of products by companies that supply such this as implants. Thirty-plus years ago in Las Vegas only four plastic surgeon did all types of plastic surgery.

Dr Roth grow up in Las Vegas an back when he was in high school it was normal to see a school friends Mom come and pick her son up and was tall blonde and beautiful dressed in her costume from one of the Las Vegas shows. At the same school as a young man Dr Roth worked selling T-shirts.

When you visit Las Vegas, perhaps for a holiday, you can’t help but experience the glam and glitz, including all the showgirls. Those show girls may only be able to work for ten years before they are unable to keep up the expectations of the beauty and glamour of what is Las Vegas. These showgirls are also moms, wives, etc.

At some point, these ladies and other front-line people working in the Las Vegas shows and casinos environment may choose to have some plastic surgery. Breast augmentation, face-lifts and tummy tucks being the most common choices.

In fact, many of the ladies that had plastic augmentation thirty-odd years ago now are choosing to visit Dr Roth’s office asking for breast reduction. If the patient elects for replacing of the original implants, which often are hardening and often calcified capsules. The new replacements are much more technically advanced than thirty-plus years ago.

Dr Roth shares some funny stories including nearly knocking over one of the oldest and most well-known cocktail waitress while on his way to get a much needed sandwich at the deli-bar with a famous sports bar in Las Vegas. Thankful the waitress wasn’t knocked over or injury. Many, many people working in the services industry of Las Vegas – waitress, cocktail waitress, Bell Boys, and parking attendants to name a few of the titles can find that with tipping they can make quite a lot of income. Of course it’s a common fact that you almost always get these coveted jobs through someone who had “points” which means some who had a vested interest! If You got the job the term locally would then be that “you got juiced into it”. Of course with the corporatisation of Las Vegas it happens a lot less, yet the slang still lingers!

Of course now in the 21st-century plastic surgery technology has vastly improved and today while breast augmentation remains popular across the world, Dr Roth also see patient who’re also interested in fillers, Botox and coolsculpting.

Las Vegas continue to attract more and more types of high-level sports teams as the city continues to grow. Dr Roth has strong connection to the sports world notably as a fight doctor with Top Rank Boxing. He continues to love all forms of sports, attend games and events when his time permits.

Formula 1 also comes to Las Vegas this year for the first time and aptly illustrates that the city has the resource to host an event that is a Global Sport.

Plastic Surgery & Social Media ethical best practices on Dr. Jeffrey Roth’s Looking Good Feeling Great Podcast ~ Ep 03-S04

Plastic Surgery & Social Media ethical best practices on Dr. Jeffrey Roth’s Looking Good Feeling Great Podcast ~ Ep 03-S04

On this episode we start with a little pre-amble about the connection Dr. Roth’s late great godfather has to Las Vegas with swimming pools, Eisenhower silver dollars, and Mexico. The major topic of episode 03 – season 04 is all about the connection between Plastic Surgery and Social media. Dr Roth and his co-host Darrell Craig Harris dive in deep and answer listeners’ questions about the ethics and best practices on social media post connected to the subject of plastic surgery.

It’s all about getting out good quality information, unfortunately only a few reputable, reliable platforms offer this! Many are prone to hyperbole, making strange claims, like indirect advertising. Dr Roth maintains you need to be very discerning over claims that as the adage goes–“its sounds too good to be true”.

You should always include these questions as part of your due diligence list:

    1. Are they registered board certified by the American board of Plastic Surgeons: https://www.abplasticsurgery.org/public/verify-certification/VerifyCert?

    2. Are they a ASPS member in good standing with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS): https://find.plasticsurgery.org/

    3. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS): https://www.physiciansaestheticcoalition.org/american-society-aesthetic-plastic-surgery

    4. Do they have hospital privileges to do what they are doing?

Once again, this is about your health and even your life in a potential medical emergency.

Dr. Roth goes onto talking about taking medical photos and that you’re not legally allowed to alter medical photos of plastic surgical procedures, i.e.: before and after pictures. Especially in a world of digital photography. No using of software such as Photoshop to remove blemishes or filters and more etc…

Dr. Roth explains why the use of before and after photos is extremely impactful ~ simply as they say, “a picture says a thousand words”. It’s also so important to use the right type of camera. Smartphone can actually cause minor focal length distortions, such as with the tip of the nose. In fact, Dr Roth has had people contact his office to arrange a consultation about their nose based on their own selfie taken with their own smartphone. In reality, they did not need an intervention, and showing them an image of their own nose taken with the correct type of camera in that initial consultation will quickly make the person realise their nose is just fine as is.

In summary, Dr Roth advises you to seek the opinion of at least three board certifies plastic surgeons before making your final decision. Ask questions such as ~ If there is a problem, do you have privileges to admit me to the hospital? What happens to me if there is a problem in the middle of the night? Proper board certified plastic surgeons have years of training that include looking at multi-options for their patient’s proper care, and this should also be the case with all the surgery staff. You must be grounded and scrupulous in making your finally choice on who to choose as your plastic surgeon and surgery.

As Dr. Roth says, “the rubber really hits the road when the scalpel hits the skin!”.

Explained - Blunt and Penetrating trauma, plus much more on this new 2023 episode of season 04 on Dr. Jeffrey J. Roth’s Looking Good Feeling Great Podcast from Las Vegas.

Explained - Blunt and Penetrating trauma, plus much more on this new 2023 episode of season 04 on Dr. Jeffrey J. Roth’s Looking Good Feeling Great Podcast from Las Vegas.

Dr. Roth answers some of the most requested questions in relation to Dr. Roth’s additional training as a trauma surgeon.

Dr. Roth gained much of this type of medical hands-on-experience while working in several hospitals in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, US (population 1.5 million).

Primarily dealing with two major sets of wounds, termed as “blunt” injury, from auto accidents, and “penetrating” injury, from knife stabbings and gun shootings.

Dr. Roth recalls some notable memories which are astounding to hear.

Listen as Dr Roth explains how the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLAS) program originated in the United States in the 70s through the tragic experience of James Styner, an orthopedic surgeon.

He was piloting a light plane and crashed it into a field in Nebraska, USA. Sadly, this air-crash instantly killed his wife, critically injured three of his four children, and James Styner sustained serious blunt trauma chest, head and eye injuries. It took fourteen hours before Doctor Styner and his children received life-saving medical help!

Doctor Styner vowed to improve the response time and how trauma patients are received at local and city hospitals. Thus, the ATLAS program started its development. Now, any trauma patient who is received in a hospital by staff specifically trained for such cases have a much higher chance of survival and recovery.

Every physician and hospital professional knows what they have to do and act in unison, coordinated by a team leader, and following the ATLAS (Advanced Trauma Life Support).protocol treatment procedure.
Dr. Roth then answers the question about sports injuries with kids and young teenagers – what to lookout for with possible “blunt” trauma injuries.

This is a fascinating new season 4 episode to start off 2023. In the next upcoming podcast, Dr. Roth goes in-depth to answer more listener question that included more about “penetrating” trauma and lots more...
