Many Christians do not know what to do with their emotions. When sadness, anger, or disappointment surface in our souls, we avoid them rather than see them as gifts. As a result, we are rarely present with God or with others.

The truth is that emotions never die. They are only buried alive. They always resurface, leaking into other parts of our lives and relationships.

It took God's work to change this in Geri Scazzero's life and marriage. When Geri and her husband discovered the permission to explore their emotional lives, it was like opening up a dam for the first time. The world went from black and white to color almost overnight.

In part five of this series, Geri Scazzero is joined by her husband Pete to explore the 8 essential relationship skills everyone must adopt in order to cultivate emotionally healthy relationships.

All of us, in some way, are anchored in our past. In other words, none of us are "blank slates". We each bring the blessings and curses of our families of origin (Exodus 20:5) into our relationships, marriages, and churches.

Emotionally healthy disciples understand that you cannot go forward without first going backward.

That is why the skill of the Genogram is one of the essential tools in both parts of the Emotionally Healthy Discipleship Course.

In part four of this series, Geri Scazzero is joined by her husband Pete to explore the 8 essential relationship skills everyone must adopt in order to cultivate emotionally healthy relationships.

Unclear and unmet expectations have the power to rip apart relationships, divide teams, blow up families, and sink entire churches. That's why expectations are a matter of life and death!

There are 4 primary ways expectations go wrong:
Your expectation is unconscious. You didn't even know you had an expectation until it was violated. Your expectation is unrealistic. It is not reasonable given the person or circumstance. Your expectation is unspoken. You did not clearly articulate your expectation to another person. Your expectation is un-agreed upon. The other person never agreed to follow-through with your expectation. The good news is – this can all be remedied by learning the life-saving skill of Clarifying Expectations.

On part three of this series, Geri Scazzero is joined by her husband Pete to explore the 8 essential relationship skills everyone must adopt in order to cultivate emotionally healthy relationships.

To cultivate healthy relationships, everyone around you must feel empowered to communicate clearly and honestly.

In part one of this series, Geri Scazzero is joined by her husband Pete,  to explore the first of 8 essential relationship skills every leader must adopt in order to unleash the God-given voice of our people.

Together, they'll model a powerful skill called "Community Temperature Reading" and talk about how it applies to relationships in leadership and life.

Without this skill, people feel silenced - unable to speak truth and creating the conditions for an environment of frustration, resentment, and judgement.

Imagine leading a church where every staff, leader, and volunteer knows how to communicate clearly. Imagine a culture, where everyone feels safe to tell the truth and has the skills needed to do so. Imagine the unity that is possible when every voice is heard.

Relationships Pt. 2: Slay the Dragon of Wrong Assumptions

Relationships Pt. 2: Slay the Dragon of Wrong Assumptions

Much of the pain we experience in relationships is the fruit of wrong assumptions.

Assumptions are like a dragon that seeks to destroy our well-being.

    ·      People quit their jobs over wrong assumptions
    ·      Churches split over wrong assumptions
    ·      Couples divorce over wrong assumptions
    ·      Families stop talking to one another over wrong assumptions.

When we make assumptions about others without checking them out, it’s easy to start telling ourselves stories about them in our heads that are not true. We are bearing false witness in our own thoughts, resulting in damaged relationships.

The principle is simple: NEVER assume you know what a person is thinking or feeling.

In part two of this series, Geri Scazzero is joined by her husband Pete, to explore the 8 essential relationship skills everyone must adopt in order to cultivate emotionally healthy relationships.

This skill is called "STOP MIND READING", and once you learn this, it could very well save your life.

The Change You’ve Been Needing

Slow down and listen; if you apply what you’ll learn from Geri, this podcast will give you insight into how your life can function more the way God created it to! I love this podcast!

VSOWELL ,

A little disappointed

I’ve ready Emotionally Healthy Woman three times and each time, it has had a profound impact on my personhood and leadership. I think everyone, especially those in any kind of ministry role should read it. I’m an active listener to the EHL podcast and was really looking forward to the launch of this one! That being said, I’m a little disappointed by the format. The cohost seems scattered, unprepared, and takes up a lot of the podcast with her own thoughts and perspective, but doesn’t really present anything valuable. I would love to hear more from Geri, more content from the chapters applied to practical scenarios, and I think it would be a lot more interesting if Geri spoke with someone different each week who relates specifically to the chapter content. What Geri shares is GOOD but each podcast feels like they’re scratching the surface, not leaving us with much to walk away with. With the current format, I’d hesitate to recommend it.

Refreshing and inspirational

Love how she simplifies the strategies and ties them in with biblical teaching in a way that it is practical and applicable. What a blessing!
