    5x Olympian, Olympic Coach & CEO of Sprint Revolution: Brett Hawke

    In this episode, I’m joined by Brett Hawke. Hawke is a renowned swim coach, former professional swimmer, host of Inside with Brett Hawke podcast, and CEO of Sprint Revolution.

    As a swimmer, Hawke was once regarded as one of the top sprinters in the world. At Auburn, Hawke was a nine-time NCAA individual champion, and helped Auburn win two national team championships. He is a five-time Australian national champion and former Australian record-holder in the 50 freestyle.

    As a coach, Hawke spent 10 seasons as Head Coach of Auburn University before transitioning to professional coaching. Hawke has worked with some of the best sprinters in the world, including names such as Cesar Cielo and Bruno Fratus.

    Outside of coaching, Hawke is actively engaged in promoting the sport by sharing his insights and experiences through his podcast, Inside with Brett Hawke, seminars and workshops.

    Swarthmore College Head Coach: Karin Colby

    In this episode, I’m joined by Karin Colby. Colby is in her ninth season as Head Coach of Men’s and Women’s Swimming at Swarthmore College. The Swarthmore men and women recently captured their third straight Centennial Conference Championship. Colby was awarded Coach of The Year for both the men and women.

    Swarthmore capitalized on the 2023-2024 season by sending a program-record 11 individuals to compete at the NCAA Division III National Championships. Swarthmore finished the meet with a ninth place finish, the highest team finish in Centennial Conference swim history.

    Prior to arriving at Swarthmore, Colby was the Acting Head Coach and Associate Head Coach at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. At MIT, Colby helped the men's and women's programs earn four top-ten team finishes at the NCAA Championships and capture consecutive NEWMAC team titles.

    Additionally, Colby spent five years as the assistant swimming and diving coach at Amherst College. During the 2012-13 season, the women's team claimed its first-ever NESCAC title and finished sixth at the NCAA Championships.

    Colby was an accomplished collegiate swimmer at Carleton College. She was a 15-time All-MIAC selection, two-year team captain, and a NCAA Division III Championship qualifier.

    Towson University Head Coach: Anthony Bruno

    Towson University Head Coach: Anthony Bruno

    In this episode, I’m joined by Anthony Bruno. Bruno just wrapped up his second season as Head Coach at Towson University. In his two seasons with the Tigers, the team has seen a plethora of lifetime bests, program records, conference champions, and most notably, mentoring Brian Benzing (‘24) to an NCAA Runner-Up performance in the 100 Breaststroke. 

    Prior to joining Towson, Bruno spent five seasons as the head coach at Fairfield University, where he was a three-time Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women’s coach of the year. During his time with the Stags, Bruno led the women’s team to back-to-back MAAC Championship titles in 2019 and 2020, the first two in program history. Bruno mentored 24 MAAC champions on the women’s side while helping 23 men’s swimmers earn a top-three finish. 

    Prior to his time at Fairfield, Bruno was the associate head coach at MAAC rival Iona College. Bruno first began his collegiate coaching journey at Division III Wesleyan University (CT). 

    Bruno earned his Bachelor's Degree in movement and sport science at Springfield College in 2009. A two-time NCAA All-American, Bruno set two school records, earned First and Second Team All-Conference honors and served as a team captain in 2009.

    Four-Time CAA Swimmer of the Year & NCAA Runner-Up: Brian Benzing

    Four-Time CAA Swimmer of the Year & NCAA Runner-Up: Brian Benzing

    In this episode, I'm joined by Brian Benzing. Benzing is a senior on the Towson University Swimming & Diving Team. He just wrapped up a historic season for the Tigers, finishing as the National Runner-Up in the 100 Breaststroke and setting CAA Conference Records in all of his individual swims at the NCAA Division I Championships.

    Benzing is also the first ever four-time recipient of the CAA Conference Swimmer of the Year. Benzing takes us through his NCAA races, describing the moments before and after the race, the importance of a consistent routine, his mindset leading up to his races, and overall takeaways from his historic season and time as a Towson Tiger.

    Benzing plans to compete at the Olympic Trials in June and will continue his academic and collegiate swimming pursuits next year at Indiana University.

    George Washington University Head Coach: Brian Thomas

    George Washington University Head Coach: Brian Thomas

    In this episode, I’m joined by Brian Thomas. Thomas just wrapped up his sixth season as Head Swimming & Diving Coach at George Washington University. Since arriving at GW, Thomas has led the men’s team to five A-10 Championships and the women’s team to four A-10 Championships in just six years. 

    Thomas led his men’s and women’s program to yet another team title this season, marking three consecutive titles for the women’s team and four consecutive titles for the men. Some highlights from GW’s season includes; 3 NCAA Division I Individual Qualifiers, CSCAA All-American Swimmer Djurdje Matic, GW's men and women relays combined for 10 gold medals, 7 A-10 Conference records, 8 program records, and the first team to ever win all 10 relays at the A-10 Championships. 

    Before GW, Thomas led an impressive turnaround at St. Bonaventure, guiding the team's rise to a fifth place at the A-10 Championship in 2018 after it finished 10th the previous three seasons. The Bonnies were rated the No. 12 most-improved women's team in the nation by SwimSwam.

    Before that, Thomas spent one year as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at UNLV and was on staff at Western Kentucky for five years, serving as associate head coach for the final two seasons.

    NCAA Champion & CSCAA Swimmer of the Year: Justin Finkel

    NCAA Champion & CSCAA Swimmer of the Year: Justin Finkel

    In this episode, I’m joined by Justin Finkel. Finkel is a junior at Division III Connecticut College. He just wrapped up a historic season for the Connecticut College Swim & Dive Program, becoming a two-time NCAA Champion, setting a new NCAA Record in the 200 Fly, and earning CSCAA Swimmer of the Year.

    Finkel is known for his trademark closing speed. In both his National Title performances, Finkel was behind his opponents going into the last 25 yards and in both swims, he found a way to close in on his opponent and win the race. We take a deep dive into what makes Finkel a great competitor, how he taps into the right mindset before his swims, and ultimately how he’s able to outlast his opponents by having the extra gear to win races.
