Brief conversations about sex between men that might surprise you. Host Paul Rosenberg, author of The Heart of Jacks: The History and Culture of Jack-Off Clubs, talks with bloggers, writers, scientists, sexologists, artists, community organizers and regular folks about the world of unexpected ideas that emerge from J/O club and “bator” cultures, a world in which millions of men openly share and celebrate the most common—and usually private—sexual activity of our species.
What is Sex?
Paul thinks of sex the way he thinks of food, sports and other "big tent" phenomena: an over-arching category that includes lots of variation, but different cultures define different sex acts as part of the franchise or "something else." In this first episode of The Heart of Jacks Podcast Season 2, Dr. Eric Sprankle— Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology and Co-Director of the Sexuality Studies program at Minnesota State University, Mankato—returns for another thought-provoking exploration of sex and sexual health.

Fourth Monday, May 2021
After an extended hiatus, Paul returns with his “Inside Baseball” update on the State of the Pod. This is probably a good episode for first-time listeners, as it offers a primer on The Heart of Jacks Project’s purpose and method (such as it is), plus some revisions to the original concept and a ton of previews into the next couple of months of the podcast.
This show includes a brief excerpt from the outstanding podcast, Simplify. In it, the brilliant and charming Caitlin Schiller interviews Christopher Ryan, co-author of Sex at Dawn. Link to the full episode is in the show notes.
In Feedback, Paul discusses erotic fiction, misogyny and lays out the underlying business model of every jack-off club, and it’s a lot more familiar than you might imagine.
Infinite thanks to the five new patrons who joined the Project since the last Fourth Monday. You guys rock!
Paul runs the best club of its kind in the world. So he’s legendary, and he’s uniquely situated to host these podcasts. So listen up—today. The content has been great so far and it doesn’t hurt that he sounds like a classic FM radio announcer.
Thoughtful and fun!
A serious topic that is treated with respect while at the same time celebrating the beauty and joy inherent in our sexuality.
DEFINITELY give it a listen
Fascinating. Sex-positive. Well-produced. Touching on human psychology, sociology, law, dysmorphia, promorphia (is that a word), shame, oppression, liberation, and oh yeah of course human sexuality in a frank, expansive, wonderful way. All around a subject that would make your pinch-lipped aunt’s blow her lid WHAT IS NOT TO LOVE?
