I recorded this episode a while back on my YouTube channel but thought I'd share it again here.

Professionals are a great resource for us in times of need, but a lot of people overlook the power, the importance of a well-trained peer support team. Tonight, I'll talk with my guy Joey V about why peer support is important and what makes a successful peer support team.

EP008 "My House, My Rules" or "Latitude and Attitude" with Jared Schechter

In this episode we dive deep into a topic that lies at the heart of effective corrections: taking ownership and responsibility for your housing unit.

Join me as I engage in a candid and insightful conversation with an industry veteran who has spent over two decades within the corridors of correctional facilities. Our guest, Jared Schechter, is not only an experienced professional but also a certified jail manager and certified correctional manager, with a track record of transformative leadership.

In this episode, we explore the significance of ownership within the context of corrections. Jared Schechter, who has managed the largest jail in the State of Kansas, shares his wealth of expertise on why fostering a sense of ownership among correctional officers is paramount. We delve into real-world stories, practical strategies, and the psychology behind empowering officers to take responsibility for their housing units.

Jared Schechter's journey, backed by his Master of Science degree in Administration of Justice from the University of Louisville and his Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resource Development, has equipped him with a profound understanding of the dynamics at play within the correctional system. As an adjunct professor at Wichita State University Tech, he imparts his knowledge in various areas of criminal justice, making him an authority on the subject.

As a firm believer in the potential of corrections and jails to shape a more just society, Jared Schechter stands as a testament to the power of continuous learning and innovation. His involvement in esteemed associations such as the American Jail Association and the American Correctional Association reflects his commitment to driving positive change within the industry.

So, if you're a correctional officer striving to make a tangible impact within your housing unit, or if you're simply curious about the inner workings of the correctional system, this episode is a must-listen.

Raw and REAL

Seriously…this podcast hits the nail on the head. The host is raw, real and direct. Somehow he seems to say all of the things I think but don’t know how to put into words. Corrections deserves a voice and here it is!

Well done Bill!

Guys & Gals of corrections you will enjoy this podcast. I truly relate to nearly everything that’s covered here. Very helpful to face what used to be ignored and hidden away. This job does change you even when you don’t see how much. It took my wife pointing it out for me to see it. Thanks to Bill Young for putting out a quality product and keep your intro the same. All the top podcasters keep what people know them by. Thanks, Chris Hunt
