102: Work In Progress with Schroeder Stribling CEO of Mental Health America

102: Work In Progress with Schroeder Stribling CEO of Mental Health America

    Today's guest is Schroeder Stribling.

Schroeder is the President and CEO of Mental Health America, the nation’s leading community-based nonprofit dedicated to addressing the needs of those living with mental illness and promoting the overall mental health of all. She is a lifelong social justice advocate with over 20 years of experience managing organizations focused on mental health, homelessness, poverty, and racial justice.

Prior to joining Mental Health America, Stribling was the CEO at N Street Village, a nonprofit providing housing support services for women and families in Washington, DC. Under her leadership, N Street Village expanded from one to eight locations. She helped diversify revenue streams, create partnerships with government entities, lead city-wide policy initiatives on homelessness, and acquire a smaller nonprofit organization. Prior to her time at N Street Village, Stribling was a Senior Social Worker at Johns Hopkins Bayview Hospital, where she was responsible for the implementation of new mental health programs in the inner-city Head Start school system. Earlier in her career, she worked as a Clinical Social Worker and served as a Coordinator for the Dual Diagnosis Program on the Inpatient Psychiatry Unit at Suburban Hospital, which is now a part of Johns Hopkins.

Stribling received a bachelor’s degree in political science from Wellesley College, a master’s in social work from Smith College School for Social Work, and a certificate in nonprofit management from Georgetown University. She speaks and writes frequently on topics related to mental health and racial and economic equity and is an ever-passionate spokesperson for mental health.

Today Schroeder opens up about her own personal mental health journey and shares what helps her maintain her brain while operating as the CEO of Mental Health America.

Nanci130 ,

So here for the honesty, relatability & vulnerability of Emily and her guests!

It’s so refreshing to have a podcast available that not only has the uncomfortable conversations, but has a host & guests willing to share their own personal stories and allow others to know they are not alone! When I found this podcast I immediately binged 3 episodes in a row! Emily is such a light and provides hope to those of us who think we are struggling alone. We are not! AND she provides actionable steps to help us feel more empowered and connected—something the world so desperately needs right now. Looking forward to many more episodes from this inspiring young woman and her guests!

Sincerely Miss Mary ,

Nurturing our Minds!

Emily is an incredible host! I am so grateful to have come on her show as a guest and share my story of toxic work environments, toxic relationships and my mental health journey. Her platform and her community is so safe and nurturing. I can’t wait to see her podcast grow and continue to amplify the voices for all of us wanting to break stigma and build a compassionate world! Go Emily go!!!

Emily is an incredible host. I had a great time being a guest on the show

This podcast was absolutely incredible. Emily created an environment for me that felt safe, secure and gave me the feeling that I could really express myself without judgement. She did a great job of asking me questions that made me dig deep and pull from within. I healed during this podcast. I suggest this podcast to everyone. It’s super inspirational!
