    Episode 185: Jason Carroll

    Join Katie and Liz on this week’s episode of True Crime New England as they navigate the complicated story of the murder of Sharon Johnson and her alleged killers. 36-year-old, heavily pregnant Sharon was found brutally stabbed and strangled in a construction site in July of 1988 in Bedford, New Hampshire. Police eventually tracked down an 18-year-old who had a child with Sharon’s stepdaughter, the child of her husband, Kenneth Johnson. Through some digging, police determined that Kenneth hired his grandchild’s father and his friend to kill his wife. What followed was dozens of messy interviews that have extreme evidence of false confessions and coercions. Tune in to hear the details as 19-year-old Jason Carroll still sits in prison after being convicted over 34 years ago, fighting for his innocence every day.

    Case Profiles #65

    Join Katie and Liz on this week's installment of their case profile mini-episode series. To kick off the show, Katie shares the details of the horrible murders of Elizabeth Matos and William Vega. 16-year-old Elizabeth and 19-year-old William were discovered, both shot to death, on the streets of Worcester, Massachusetts in 2001. Then, Liz talks about the sad murder of father-of-six Jawara Stennett, who was driving home with his father and brothers after celebrating a birthday when he was shot through the car on the I-95 just outside of Bridgeport, Connecticut.     Episode 184: The Murder of Terri Weed

    On this week’s episode of True Crime New England, Katie and Liz talk about the senseless murder of 15-year-old Terri Weed at the hands of someone she thought cared for her. Terri had been semi-secretly dating 16-year-old Wade Willis, and in May of 1981, she approached him to tell him that she was pregnant. Embarrassed about what others would think, Wade decided he would solve the problem and killed Terri. He immediately confessed to his parents and was subsequently charged with first-degree murder in April of 1982. After serving just 19 years in prison, Wade was released.

    Episode 183: The Disappearance of Doreen Marfeo

    On this week's episode of True Crime New England, Katie and Liz talk about the mysterious case of the disappearance of Doreen Marfeo- a tidy, punctual, well-liked woman who apparently changed drastically before she went missing. Doreen had been in a struggling marriage for 12 years, and according to her husband, Steve Marfeo, she had become a nervous wreck who couldn't talk about her problems and suddenly quit her job. The circumstances surrounding her disappearance are extremely suspicious, and the police are convinced that Steven had something to do with it. Unfortunately, nearly a decade after her disappearance, Steven shot and killed an ex-girlfriend and then turned the gun on himself, leaving the true answers to Doreen's whereabouts buried with him.     Join Katie and Liz on True Crime New England's 64th installment of their mini-episode case profile series. This week, Liz starts the show off by relaying the details of the senseless murder of 19-year-old Reality Shabazz Walker out of Springfield, Massachusetts in 2010.     Episode 182: James Purrington

    Come on a journey 200 years in the past as Katie and Liz explore another historic tragedy on this week’s episode of True Crime New England. In the very first years of the 19th century, Captain James Purrington moved his wife and eight children to start anew on a small farm in Augusta, Maine. James was generally well-respected in the community, known to be hard-working and honest, especially as the appointed captain of the Bowdoinham militia. So imagine the surprise of the community when one fateful July night in 1806, James’ 17-year-old son knocks on the door of his neighbor’s home, covered in blood, telling the tale of a massacre at his home. Tune in to hear the details of the familicide and the theories that come along with all of the unknown.

    Episode 181: The Exoneration of Robert Foxworth

    Join Katie and Liz on this week’s episode of True Crime New England where they tackle another harrowing exoneration case. In May of 1991, a man named Kenneth McLean was shot and killed in Roxbury, Massachusetts, supposedly after a drug deal went wrong. A teenage witness, who admitted he didn’t see the face of the shooter, only a notable ponytail, later identified Robert Foxworth as the killer. He was subsequently tried alongside two other men, who he did not even know, who were said to have been present at the shooting. Unfortunately, due to some withheld evidence and a violation of Foxworth’s Sixth Amendment right, he was sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of first-degree murder. What followed was nearly 30 years of legal battles, in which Robert Foxworth fought hard for his freedom, claiming innocence the entire time.

    Case Profiles #63

    Join Katie and Liz on another episode of True Crime New England's case profile mini-episode series. This week, Katie starts us off with a mysterious story about the discovery of a John Doe out of Smithfield, Rhode Island in 1987. The body had clearly been a victim of homicide and was then weighed down with cables and barbell weights in Stump Pond. Then, Liz ends the episode with the story of two best friends who were shot and killed almost exactly five years apart in similar circumstances. Both cases remain unsolved.
