North Carolina is still looking to make a frontcourt splash in the transfer portal and Illinois transfer Coleman Hawkins might just be that guy. Part of the problem right now is that Hawkins is currently in the NBA Draft. CBS’ Matt Norlander suggests that if Hawkins returns to college, the Tar Heels would be in play for his services. Would Hawkins be more or a 4 or 5 for Carolina…or play some of both? Why are there misconceptions about Hawkins and his temperament? Could he be next season’s version of Cormac Ryan from a fiery standpoint? What critical things does Hawkins still need to work on improving?

Outside of landing Belmont transfer Cade Tyson and getting back RJ Davis and Seth Trimble withdrawing from the portal, the North Carolina Tar Heels haven’t been able to secure other portal commits. North Carolina is still in search of the guys it wants to fill the frontcourt vacancies left by Armando Bacot and Harrison Ingram. One possibility to fill Ingram’s shoes is FSU transfer Jamir Watkins, who the Tar Heels got familiar with this year up close and personal. How would Watkins’ all-around game bring a unique dynamic to the Tar Heels?

Another potential target could be Samford transfer Achor Achor, who went toe to toe with Kansas and Hunter Dickinson in the NCAA Tournament, nearly taking down the mighty Jayhawks.

Regardless what happens with these two potential targets and Carolina choosing to pursue them, there are other frontcourt players out there for the Tar Heels to go after.

For the second straight day, one of Carolina’s frontcourt transfer portal targets chose a non-UNC option. On Sunday it was Rutgers transfer Cliff Omoruyi choosing Alabama and on Monday it was Kentucky transfer Adou Thiero picking Arkansas. What does this mean for the Tar Heels? Where do they turn next? Is it time for a reset? Is it time to consider playing to the current strengths of the roster more heavily? Will Carolina continue to consider transfer portal options? Will they take a serious look at players currently in the NBA Draft, but also in the transfer portal, like Illinois’ Coleman Hawkins?
