This could’ve been an opportunity for them to show growth and maturity, and an older-and-wiser perspective on their show while giving fun behind the scenes tidbits. Instead they come across as bitter castmates who are using this as an opportunity to push their incredibly biased narrative, gloss over so many things to avoid making themselves or Spencer look bad, and make excuses for themselves that they were young but never extend that same grace to Lauren who was just as young. The final straw for me was the I Know What You Did episode where the producer literally says that Spencer told him Lauren had a sex tape 2 days before it was on Perez Hilton and they still sat there and acted like they had no idea who might have been responsible for the rumor. Brody said on an episode of The Hills that he knew 100% that the rumor came from Spencer and Heidi, yet sat there on this podcast saying he has no clue who started it, and then had the audacity to imply that it doesn’t matter because it brought great ratings and they all got paid more. The mature adult in the room (the producer) was the only one to point out that the ratings and riches came at Lauren’s expense. A quick google search is all it takes to see Spencer’s hateful blog about Lauren, where he says she has a sex tape and repeatedly makes derogatory comments about her private parts, yet these people continue to try to act like he had nothing to do with this and his behavior was all for the cameras. Heidi spends every episode reiterating her same points over and over again on why she thinks it’s ridiculous that Lauren stopped being her friend as if it was just about Lauren not liking her boyfriend, yet never mentions the tape, and then conveniently sits out that episode. They either skip over things Spencer says and does, justify them by saying it’s all acting, or even try to spin them as being loving - so many of his “loving” actions should be giant red flags to viewers if they find themselves in similar relationships, so I find it very disturbing that they’re acting like it’s all fine or even positive. It’s been many years and Heidi and Spencer are married to this day, so they should be able to say that back when they were filming the show a lot of things weren’t ok, here’s what was for the show, here’s what wasn’t and we now can reflect on it and see why it was wrong, and here’s how our relationship looks today now that we’ve learned from our mistakes, instead of trying to spin this whole thing in their favor as if everything back then was fine, and Lauren was just being unreasonable to have an issue with it. Any criticism any of them get they just dismiss as hate, so there’s no accountability or growth.
