Translating the Facts – Culture Language and HIV (Part 1)

Translating the Facts – Culture Language and HIV (Part 1)

HIV impacts people regardless of race, sexuality, or gender. With ¼ of people in Australia with at least one parent born overseas, or from other countries themselves - our communities are diverse. In Victoria, HIV impacts the lives of people from all cultures, and so providing information and services tailored to individual cultural and linguistic needs is vital.

Michael talks to Jen Johnson, Program Manager at Living Positive Victoria about supporting our communities living with HIV who speak a language other than English through various multilingual resources and projects.

Thank you so much to Beau Newham, the project lead on Translating the Facts for bringing these resources to life for our community.

Dismissed Denied and Demeaned – Religious Discrimination

Dismissed Denied and Demeaned – Religious Discrimination

LGBTQ+ people and the people who love, support and affirm us are discriminated against by religious educational institutions and faith-based service providers across the country, every day. Ghassan Kassisieh, Legal Director at Equality Australia joins us to discuss the new report Dismissed, Denied and Demeaned: A national report on LGBTQ+ discrimination in faith-based schools and organisations.

We explore religious carveouts that enable faith based institutions to discriminate against LGBTIQ+ people, instances of affirming practices, and how we protect our community from harm.

You can read the full report here: https://equalityaustralia.org.au/resources/dismissed-denied-and-demeaned-a-national-report-on-lgbtq-discrimination-in-faith-based-schools-and-organisations/

Want to hear more from Ghassan?

We last spoke about the Religious Discrimination Bill during it's formation in 2020, and later for an update in 2021 as well as discussing our priorities for the health and wellbeing of LGBTIQA+ people during the Victorian State Elections
