In 1978, state Sen. John Briggs put a bold proposition on the California ballot. If it passed, the Briggs Initiative would ban gays and lesbians from working in public schools—and fuel a growing backlash against LGBTQ+ people in all corners of American life. In the ninth season of Slate’s Slow Burn, host Christina Cauterucci explores one of the most consequential civil rights battles in American history: the first-ever statewide vote on gay rights. With that fight looming, young gay activists formed a sprawling, infighting, joyous opposition; confronted the smear that they were indoctrinating kids; and came out en masse to show Briggs—and their own communities—who they really were. And when an unthinkable act of violence shocked them all, they showed the world what gay power looked like.

Great reporting, confusing feed
Season 3: Great podcast about the story of Rappers Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G., „Biggy“ Smalls. Great research, storytelling, host and voice, intelligent and insightful cultural and social analysis. I loved listen to this podcast and find it expectional. All Podcast should hold themselves to this high standard of journalism and professional production.
The feed of Slow Burn is very confusing. I wish all different seasons would also be released individually. As of now there are over eight seasons and stand-alone episodes (that sometimes appear mid-season on a completely different topic) on wildly different topics all in the same stream. The cover doesn‘t make any sense if you want to listen to a specific season or episode. Also it is very hard to find a specific season or episode (for instance the one about Tupac and Biggie). If someone searches for a good podcast about Tupac and Biggie they probably are not gonna find it. It also makes the ratings confusing because listeners review and rate a whole podcast but listened to very different seasons. Please clean up the feed to showcase your amazing podcasts on the level they deserve 🙏🏻.
Very much worth my time - and yours!
This podcast stands out by looking at events that the avid newspaper reader knows of, but does not know of enough. Many things are clearer (and more complex) in retrospect. Very insightful and balanced: great food for thought.
Best podcast I know (and I know a lot)
This is my favorite podcast of all. I wish u would cover every topic there is like this. I hope u’ll make one about the Russia-Investigation as well.
