Addoley + Anna Break Up With Forms feat Germain Ngoma + Cassie Thornton

For Season 6, Addoley and Anna present one single episode: “Addoley + Anna Break Up With Forms”. Together they catch up after more than a year since their last recording. Addoley has spent a year in Europe as a Fulbright Researcher-in-Residence and Anna has been underground.

For their one-episode season, Addoley and Anna get help from artists Germain Ngoma and Cassie Thornton to figure out ways to handle an artist crisis, as well as what to do with all the stuff that compiles over the years. Cassie describes how art is a way to learn things that might be applied to a world on fire, and tells us how she has cursed paintings before distributing them to bankers. Germain explains how he visits the forest when he needs inspiration, and how much he loves his storage.

    The Friends Season: Collaboration

    The Friends Season: Collaboration

For Ask Addoley + Anna's bonus episode of The Friends Season, Addoley and Anna (while on their trip to visit CAC Brétigny) have invited a set of new guest advisors. They are joined by The Big Conversation Space (Niki Korth and Clémence de Montgolfier) to discuss experiences and thoughts about collaboration. One question tackled in this episode is taken directly from The Talking Cure, a project by The Big Conversation Space which is present in The Real Show at CAC Brétigny: "What is collective action and how can it co-mingle with individual agency?" The other question addressed is: How to deal with feelings about one's individual work/practice suffering while a collaboration is thriving? In addition to The Big Conversation Space, Addoley and Anna are joined by artist Linda Lamignan, who includes collaborators in many of their works, as well as Emilie McDermott (collaborator with Nour Awada on the project [Re]Production).

    The Friends Season: Love

    The Friends Season: Love

For this episode focusing on love, Anna and Addoley share pieces of romantic news and talk about how their relationships have changed over time. The love being addressed in this episode is mostly connected to loving oneself.

Kiyoshi and Anne Liis offer up their best flirting tips and discuss the difficulties connected to flirting. Anna likes receiving contact information on paper, Addoley finds herself teasing someone when attempting to flirt. Kahlil and Espen help Addoley and Anna find examples of structures of care in the art world. When addressing questions regarding self-care, they talk with Lyndon about the values of boundaries and basketball highlights. Erik reminds them of how life sometimes might not have space for what one might consider self-care.

    The Friends Season: Work

    The Friends Season: Work

For the second episode of The Friends Season, Addoley and Anna receive help from their cast of friends to give work-related advice.

Kahlil and Anne Liis help unpack how to navigate bad terms around an exhibition, with or without burning bridges in the process. Kiyoshi and Lyndon give their thoughts on a question regarding whether to stay—or not—as a BIPOC worker in a predominantly white art institution, considering all the costs that may come with it. Kahlil and Kiyoshi give advice to a listener who wonders whether perhaps a lack of mingling could explain a lack of professional recognition. Erik and Espen wonder whether or not a listener actually should fight back against impostor syndrome or not.

    Introducing The Friends Season

    Introducing The Friends Season

During their first episode of The Friends Season, Addoley and Anna are wishing they could have recorded from The Real Show at CAC Brétigny, but instead are recording from under desks in Tulsa and Stavanger. Having been invited to an exhibition that deals with questions of popularity and populism, they decide to invite friends of the podcast or friends of either Addoley or Anna. Addoley and Anna discuss the time in their lives that they connect the most with the idea of “popularity” and how the art world is connected to it.

Addoley and Anna introduce their cast of art-friends who are joining in advice-giving for The Friends Season—Kahlil Robert Irving, Kiyoshi Yamamoto, Erik Sæter Jørgensen, Anne-Liis Kogan, Lyndon Barrois Jr., and Espen Birkedal—and invite them to talk about their teenage selves.

The questions Addoley and Anna received for The Friends Season are divided into single episodes focusing on work, love, and home.
