Dr Giles Yeo Chews the Fat
We tend to reduce food and health to bitesize nuggets of information, like calories or BMI. It’s understandable; numbers are easily digestible when we’re looking for answers or a quick fix. But the thing is, there’s a lot more to health – hey, there’s a lot more to life! – than the numbers you see on the back of a crisp packet or on the scales. Geneticist Dr Giles Yeo feels we need a bit more space to think about the relationship food has with our body, our mind, and even our soul! Join Giles as he chews the fat with fellow foodies, scientists, and doctors. Across this series, he’ll be asking how our genes play a role in weight loss and gain, how our stomachs chat to our brains, and whether going on a run really means we can gorge on doughnuts when we get home... Absolutely fascinating!

An explanation of why the way we eat is important, rather than just being given a list of what we should be doing, for me when I understand the science and research behind the reasons for eating whole foods etc and limiting highly processed foods in my diet, I find it much easier to make the changes, someone just telling me this is what you should do doesn’t work for me , I’m finally feeling much more positive about my diet and gaining more control over it. Well done Giles, I’m looking forward to more episodes.
Brilliant!

Note from the ghetto: some conditions cause weight gain

Really interesting discussions, with obviously remarkable guests- but, is it really sufficient to say the essentially if you eat less you will lose weight after recognising that some metabolic conditions lead to weight gain. UK doesn’t want to recognise many mechanisms treated in Europe, USA, Australia. So it’s not a universally applied approach. Maybe there are specialists in Gastro in leading inst eg Mayo clinic that could give more texture to “eat less”
